Help with dithering with gimp

Post by x_titan_x »

I have a track I am working on. I am trying to dither it using Gimp, But I can't get the spray brush to work. It won't do anything but make a solid blot, and that is only sometimes. I separated the track form the grass area using layers, that way the spray wouldn't affect the track, and I can dither each part seperately. I know when I get it done to merge the layers, and then export it as a 16-bit bmp.

Try using the paintbrush tool for dithering. Select it and then use some other brush shape than dot. Some shapes offer interesting results. :bg:

Yes, do that what egamad said. But I suggest you to make a path and then stroke path again and again....
AFAIR thegreatfalcon made a tutorial about those paths. Just choose the right settings and you'll get great results ;)

There can be problem with setting of the ''pressure'' in this tool. Or not?

Ok, I got it to work, but when I go to save it I choose to make it a 16 bit BMP, and it'll save, but when i go to import it says its not a 16 bit BMP. I also tried to copy and paste it into paint, and when i saved it as a 16 bit BMP with paint, it made it all grey

I think I'll try something else, what are my other options?

this might happen when you change from rgb to indexed colours. You should try to create a GR colour palette. And then when indexing choose it ;)

The easiest way is to export lmap to .bmp in Trackeditor and then open it directly with GIMP. This way GIMP uses the correct GR palette for the bitmap automatically. When you're done editing simply save it and confirm all dialog boxes. Then you can import it back to TE. :bg:
