Bigger Resolution than 640x480 in Win7

I switched to Windows 7 but now GR gets all rainbowy and I cant raise the resolution above 640x480.

The Radeon 4780 apparently is similar to my card, an ATi with 1GB of memory... I think someone else said they had something similar... could this maybe be the problem? It would be nice to have some kind of survey of most of the board...

Ivo asked me to test some configurations if i can. here are my results: Red means GR runs only on 640x480 and green means that it can run the highest resolution possible on the screen. I will do some more configurations tomorrow.

Windows 7 64bits /w GTX275 896mb RAM /22"TFT @ 1680x1050, 4 Core AMD Phenom doesn't work. Runs only on 640x480 and always creates the strange colours. (I don't have the palette installed)

Same Windows 7 computer, with integrated ATi Radeon HD 4200 works fine except for some flickering (which also happens with my 5770). Definitely the graphics card...
