GeneRally v1.10 - BUG REPORTS

Post by James »

GeneRally 1.10 - Bug Reports

This thread is for bug reports only (no feature requests). Please follow the format and guidelines outlined below or your post will be deleted.

Markku or I will edit posts that we have read to update their status. We will add a quote box at the top with relevant information. Please do not remove it, as it will be used for us to keep track of the bugs you have reported :bg:

Status Messages
  • Fixed - this has been fixed already (but may or may not be in a public release).
  • Targeted for next version - we will aim to include this fix in the next release of any kind.
  • Targeted for a future version - we will aim to include this fix in a future, but not necessarily the next, version.
  • Under consideration - we are considering whether we can/will fix this issue (typically, these are not strictly bugs, but more 'problematic features').
  • Already reported - another user has already reported this issue (post content will be removed for ease-of-reference).
  • Cannot reproduce this issue - your reproduction steps don't work for us. This means we probably won't be able to fix the issue until we have more information.
  • Intended behaviour - this is not a bug but a deliberate feature.
  • Rejected - this will not be fixed for the foreseeable future (usually due to a game engine limitation).

Guidelines
  • You must give your system specifications (operating system version and hardware set-up).
  • You must give reproduction steps that work every time for you.
  • You must provide screenshots where appropriate.
  • You must write in clear and concise English.
  • If possible, you should test to see if you can observe the bug in v1.05.

Format Example
Problem
Observed in v1.10c? No
Observed in v1.10b? Yes
Observed in v1.10? Yes
Observed in v1.05? No
The game crashes when I create an AI driver with 101 skill level.

Expected Behaviour
The game should not crash when creating AI drivers.

Reproduction
  1. Open the Drivers menu
  2. Select 'Create', enter a name and select 'computer' type and press 'OK'
  3. Set the driver skill to 101.
  4. Press OK
System Configuration
Operating System: Windows 7
Hardware: Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0 GHz, 2x2gb DDR2 PC3200 RAM, ATi Radeon HD 4850 512MB PCI-E, 500GB SATAII HDD, ASUS Xonar D2 Audio.
This format is important so that we can identify and fix bugs easily - but, obviously, we cannot guarantee to fix every bug!

Thanks for your co-operation :bg:

James wrote:Cannot reproduce this issue. This has been experienced by a handful of people, often occurring randomly, not every time. I will look into the resolution-change code, but without being able to reproduce this bug myself, I can't really guarantee a fix.
Problem
Observed in v1.10? Yes
Observed in v1.05? No
The game crashes when I try to go full-screen (alt+enter method) when actually racing. It also crashed the PC as well.

Expected Behaviour
The game should not crash when trying to go full-screen mid-race. A game crash should not crash the entire PC either.

Reproduction

1. Race
2. Press alt+enter

System Configuration
Operating System: Windows Vista
Hardware: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2 GHz, 4x512 MB DDR2 RAM, NVidia GeForce 8600 GTS 256 MB PCI-E, 2 160GB SATA II HDDs, 640GB SATAII HDD, Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio.

Problem
Observed in v1.10? Yes
Observed in v1.05? No
The game crashes when track is unfinished

Expected Behaviour
The game should not crash when track is unfinished.

Reproduction

1. Open Generally
2. Select unfinished track (without AI line, Pits etc.)
3. Select driver
4. Select start
5. Look at beautiful bug ; D

System Configuration
Operating System: Windows XP SP3

When I start the game, I'm always in Default tracks folder instead of of in ''All tracks'', so I need to do it manually always after start the game, which is very uncomfortable. But it happens only if I keep the folder named [Default], if I delete the [], the game works as should be (after start in ''All tracks'').

Expected Behaviour
The game should be after start in All tracks menu.

Reproduction

1. Download gamepack
2. Extract
3. Start the game

System Configuration
Operating System: Win Vista SP2 CZ
Hardware: laptop HP Compaq 6730s, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, 2GB DDR2 RAM, ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 3430, Hitachi 250GB HDD.

Game showed a blue area where usually the track would have been

Expected Behaviour
Game shows the track at a normal way

Reproduction

1. Change resolution to 1600*900
2. race Maciej1's Surfers Paradise
3. You'll see a huge area in the top of the track. some parts of the objects are still shown but landmap and your car/ghost acutally aren't.

System Configuration
Operating System: Win XP SP3
Hardware: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 GHz, 3328 gb RAM, nVidia GeForce 9800 GT 1024 MB, 500GB HD

Trk file deleted by Trigger Happy , next time don't put here tracks or cars without permission of author to do it - it's disallowed sharing like in other cases. Use e.g. topic/personal site/ToM link, where the track is available or send it via mail to James.

Problem 1
Observed in v1.10? Yes
Observed in v1.05? Not to the same extent
Many cars that previously fitted in the car selection box do not in windowed mode. Cannot say if they fit or not in the very high resolutions, but they do not at 1280x800.

Expected Behaviour
In windowed mode, cars should fit in the box - ALL cars should, no matter how big (even in 1.05 there were issues with some very big vehicles)

Reproduction

1. Go to windowed mode in a smaller screen resolution
2. Try to use the car selection box with a car with a total value of around 4.6-4.7, it'll be right on the limits. Anything longer won't fit at all (e.g. my Italdesign Medici I clearly has part of the wheel and rear outside the box, and many of the other cars in OHS are right on the limits).

James wrote:Cannot reproduce this issue. Will attempt to explore this problem through various system configurations, but this may be configuration-related rather than strictly game-related. GR v1.10 makes better use of available resources than earlier versions of GeneRally, so it isn't a performance-related bottleneck. That said, windowed mode applications always perform worse than their full-screen counterparts due to memory constraints. Your issue here may be related to using only 2GB RAM on a Vista system.
Problem 2
Observed in v1.10? Yes
Observed in v1.05? No
Considerably more lag in windowed mode than in fullscreen, even when I have the same programs open. EDIT: I have seen this issue even when no programs other than GeneRally are open.

Expected Behaviour
Windowed mode should not lag when compared to fullscreen mode.

Reproduction

1. Run several programs, ie in my case a web browser, iTunes, MSN (1 conversation window) and MS Access 2003. Better performing computers will require more taxing to exhibit this I would expect.
2. Try racing GR in windowed mode.

System Configuration
Operating System: Win Vista Home Premium SP2
Hardware: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2 GHz, 2 GB DDR2 RAM, nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS 256 MB, 2x160 GB and 1x640GB HD

The game crashes when I attempt to set the resolution to one higher than my monitor is intended to support.

Expected Behaviour
The game should not crash when setting such a resolution; it should either not allow such resolutions to be selected, or display an error message.

Reproduction

1. Open the Advanced menu
2. Set the Resolution slider to anything higher than the monitor supports (for me it is 1920x1200)
3. Press OK
Note: This takes place while entirely in fullscreen mode.

System Configuration
Operating System: Windows 7
Hardware: AMD Phenom II X4 B55, 4x2GB DDR3 PC10600 RAM, ATi Radeon HD 5770 1GB PCI-E, 500GB SATA HDD
Monitor: HP 2445m Wide LCD (24")

The game lags/"skips frames". Particularly noticeably at high speeds. This happens on all tracks even if I close all programs/restart computer. (not unplayable but I wouldn't drive in competitions with this problem). Occurs in windowed mode, but not fullscreen.

The GeneRally Track Editor crashes when ".TRK" files are associated with "TrackEditor.exe". Starting the Track Editor in the usual manner and then opening a track file works fine. But, when clicking on a ".TRK" file within the Windows Explorer (after associating ".TRK" files with the Track Editor, of course) the Track Editor crashes with the following error message (with the usual "send report to Microsoft" blurb):
TrackEditor.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Error signature:

AppName: trackeditor.exe
AppVer: 0.0.0.0
ModName: trackeditor.exe
ModVer: 0.0.0.0
Offset: 0000dbd9
Expected Behaviour
The GeneRally Track Editor should not crash when loading ".TRK" track files via Windows file associations.

Reproduction
  1. Associate GeneRally ".TRK" track files with the Track Editor (TrackEditor.exe) in the usual Windows manner.
  2. Double-click on any ".TRK" track file within Windows Explorer (or any other file manager).

Hardware: Intel P4 2.666 GHz, 768 DDR RAM, Intel 82865G onboard graphics controller 96MB, 128GB Seagate IDE HDD, Sound Blaster Live! Value CT4780 audio.

Modifying driver's primary color changes color of HUD elements. Seems to happen only with certain color combinations and only in full-screen mode.

Expected Behavior
Color of HUD elements should stay same.

Reproduction

After "Launching Generally" from the track editor, and then closing Generally, to return to the track editor, it has stuck in a fullscreen view, see picture for details... yet is still functional

Expected Behavior
The track editor should have resumed as normal, playable in it's windowed state

Reproduction
Open track editor
Save a track... or load one
Click "Launch Generally"
Close Generally, either straight away or after racing... everything still functions normally at this point
Problem is now after the closure of Generally and back onto the desktop with the track editor still open, in a fullscreen view.
