Savegamemerger doesn't work anymore?

Is Savegame Merger working with it?
When I want to merge saves I get two windows
1st:
LoadGamsInfo 4-0
6 Overflow
2nd:
One of the selected saves doesn't contain a replay.
Merging is not possible.

As 'unfair' as it may sound - it's a third-party tool, so not really our problem. I'm sure, in time, the community will update the relevant tools to incorporate the new features.

Merging is not possible.
Probably due to the track files being in a different format than previous versions. Quite similar to; you can't open a newer GeneRally version track in an older version of GeneRally :wink:

Im a bit confused. On one hand the new GR 1.10 is cheat proof becouse you can't change game speed wich is fantastic news for me at least, becouse I'm running a league in Poland for sevral years now, and this is quite a problem. On the other hand Save Merger the tool that is crutial to all competitions as we don't have on-line game is not working. The best part is the author of the tool is long gone and it's not gonna be updated...

And to be ohnest I just don't get it? Why fix one great bug just to leave us with another problem?

All hope is not lost. We do have talented people in our community and I'm sure someone will fix this, hopefully soon. :)

It was that way always - after update of game several tools always needed update. Same will happen again, or somebody will create new one (I have hope in majortom btw, but haven't talked with him about anything yet).

Our responsibility is developing the game. Third-party tools are the responsibility of their original authors. As much as we try not to break compatibility with tools - we cannot, and will not, test every tool for compatibility... nor will we stop implementing something just because of potential problems with community tools. If we didn't implement anything that broke tools - the only changes for 1.10 would have been the new SDL features/support.

The likely problem with most of these tools is the updated version flag at the beginning of the save/track file... and possibly the new objects... It shouldn't take very long for the original authors to update their tools (if they were 'well designed' in the first place).

Keep on using 1.05 - Savegamemerger doesn't work with the new track format.

Probably, I miss something, but I did a short test yesterday and could as easily merge alll replays as always. :hide: I've done it with GR 1.10 on old tracks and with GR 1.10 on new tracks, it doesn't make any difference.

Here is mine (same conditions - 1.10 trk in 1.10), I could merge, but cannot load. And the yours I cannot load too.

I noticed something strange - when I look to savegamereader to row related to track for the particular saves, I can see:
my replays which I used for the merged: one - correct path, second - red letters ''bad''
my merged replay - ''bad''
buka's merged replay - ''bad''

then I made two more saves right now on same track - both they have correct path and the final merged replay too - and loading works even for me!

So I'm curious, where is the problem, which made is some cases the ''bad'', especially in case of the Buka's merged replay. I used for all original tracks. :rolleyes: Any idea? :?

I can view both of those replays just fine...

I could load both replay with GR 1.10

After a small patch (Header from 110 to 105) both replay runs fine with GR 1.05
only new objects are missing. New objects are ignored by GR 1.05, so you can
drive through them when load a 1.10 Track in 1.05.

Principal savegame is independent from Trackfile, because it is only a collection
of x,y,z coordinates and can run on a ' blank' track.

Open Gamefile with Hexeditor and change first Byte from 10Hex to 5Hex.
That's the patch!

Actually it looks like a... lottery. ;) Some people can load replays, samo cannot load, some cannot merge...
Is there anyone working to write a merger for 1.10 which will be compatible with all 1.10 saves? Now the most competitions are using 1.05 only because there isn't savegame merger for new version of GR. And this isn't a good thing for GR community.
I hope that anyone will make this merger. ;) Good luck with coding! :P
And... Maybye anyone know why ex. majortom can load this merged saves, but I and Buka can't? Is there any known reason?

The only ones who can give us a answer about merging replays should be the guys
with the source code of generally. They know the structure of savegame file and
how to build a new one out of several replays. Although I checked out the basic
structure of savegame, there are a lot of bytes, I don't know the exact meaning.

I don't know, if the problems with merged replays are a problem of 1.10 or if
there are other reasons. In old 'only 1.05 times', I had a problem with replays
in my standard generally directory. There are to many cars in car folder.
When I deleted one, replay works!
Competitions have a better chance for running replays because of clean and similar GR folders.

To end lottery and find a final answer, let's make a test race:

Use GR 1.10, Track Estio, Car Formula, 3 AIs 80/70/60
Settings:
Race length : 5 km
Tyre wear : 10%
Fuel consumption : 10%
Fuel mass : 50 kg
Damages : 15%

Send me the zipped game of your race as PM or post it here.

I will merge replays and try to find a answer if running or not.

Lerhond: where is your human driver? I must take the AI.
For me, merged replay runs perfect.

Please test and post your problems. What happens, when loading?
Crash to windows or back to gr menue or any error message?
Can you load replay with savegame reader (red bad track?)
Try it in a clean GR installation.

I found out, that you can't save a replay after racing a saved starting grid!
You can save it, but there is no replay in savegame, only the race position.
The replay has a smaller filesize.

Is this a known feature for preventing save/resume a game?
The only way to save a running replay is by pressing start button and race.
But then you get a random startposition. We need editing start for competitions!
