How to create Oval banking?

Post by Alex »

Hello, how do i create Oval banking? Doing it on TE just makes my track look noobish and I can't use GRHMedit properly. So are there any tutorials on making Oval banking or any suggestions available?
Thanks.

Step 1. export land
2. open land in paint
3. fill track and infield in dark colour and outfield in light colour
4. save and open in photoshop
5. change to grayscale
6. change size to 64x64
7. blur > gaussian blur (change amount until you're happy)
8. save and import hmap

I finally got off of my butt last week and fixed all of the broken links on my web pages :)

Surf here -> http://www.cmoo.com/snor/weeds/grbank.htm for the (in)famous oval banking tutorial (with pics).

Ok, i created my .bmp but how can i convert it to a 256 colour bitmap without ruining the blur effect? Putting it in MS paint does a horrible gradient effect and makes the track nearly undrivable.

I launched my gimp and there isn't a 256 colour bitmap option to save the picture as. Any other ideas?

I have no idea about GIMP (and I know that MS Paint will completely cobble it up, so that's not an option). Anyhow, the key is converting it to grayscale (which will automatically convert the image to 8-bit 256 colors)... not simply converting the image to 256 colors.

Anyhow, like I said, I dunno about GIMP; but I'd be real surprised if it didn't have some sort of feature to convert an image to 8-bit grayscale (which of course, is 256 colors).

Oh man thank you. If you hadn't said "8 bit grayscale" I wouldn't have known i had to save it as 8bit. I saved it as 24 bit. Thanks.

If you use the SnakeDitor you could use it.
1-On the Hmap-making tool, select your extern and intern hmap value.(example-180 extern and 160 intern)
2-Save the track exporting at least the hmap.
3-On TE, export the hmap and open it on paint.
4-Paint extern area with the extern banking color(on example, 180-180-180) and the intern area with the intern banking color.(on example, 160-160-160)
5-Save, open on GRHMEdit and smooth it.
6-Pass hmap to track.
