[TT] [Manager] World Rally League

Post by Haruna »

OK, I think I finally struck the good balance between complexity and simplicity... so, without further ado, I present...
World Rally League
What's the World Rally League?
World Rally League is a championship which is played as a management/strategy game: You are the manager, the engineer, and the mechanic! Your role in this competition is to lead your team of driver and navigator to victory.

How will I know there is new stuff?
Bold red text, just like this.

Cool, how do I start?
What you'll need:
- Microsoft Excel 97-2003 or Open Office equivalent
- Juan's GeneRally Car Editor
- A empty install of GeneRally (tracks and cars directory empty except for the WRL tracks and cars)
- The current round's team data, cars, and tracks

(complex)
1. Download the WRL Entry Kit from the bottom of this post.
2. Open the XLS file using either OpenOffice, Microsoft Excel, or anything else that can open up .XLS files.
3. You will see lots and lots of data, however, the only things you should be concerned now are the text in blue.
4. Give your team a name, enter your name and nationality, and pick a car.
-> To pick a car, click on the box next to the words "Car". You will then see a drop-down list where you can pick the car. All cars perform more or less the same.
5. Pick your drivers/navigators. Drivers/navigators cost CR, the in-game money.
6. Pick your car's base stats. Improving base stats costs CR as well.
7. Under the box that says "Tire Selection", pick the tires you want to use for the rally. They can all be the same if you want/need to.
8. Open up Car Editor and load up "WRL.car".
9. Go to "Export" and pick your car model.
10. Give the exported car file a new name, for instance "MyWRLentry.car".
11. Go to your new car file. (OPTIONAL: Paint your car)
12. Copy from the green text of the Excel file to your car. For this car you should copy down data from first day's choice.
13. Copy the car, and copy down grip and slowdown data from the second day's choice. Wet Tar. is Gravel 2.
14. Copy the car, and copy down grip and slowdown data from the third day's choice.
15. Save the car file!
16. Upload your settings to the thread.
(simple)
1. Download the WRL Entry Kit from the bottom of this post.
2. Fill out all the blue text. If there is a drop-down box next to it, click on it and pick an item from the list.
3. Open up Car Editor and load up "WRL.car".
4. Go to "Export" and pick your car model. Give the file a new name.
5. Load your car and copy down everything from the green text. For grip and slowdown values they should be from first day tire choice.
6. Do the same for the cars for the other two days.
7. Save the car file!
8. Upload your settings to the thread.
What the heck is this Experience Multiplier?
The experience system is a somewhat simple system that allows squad members (driver/navigator) to gain experience after a rally. The XP Multiplier shows how much more skill they will gain than normal. This is to balance out good drivers vs. bad ones.

Skill level = "AI skill level" in "Drivers" options screen

Detailed explanation:
Here's a little example showing benefit of higher XP Multiplier:
Yukie Tsuchikami has 4.5 XPM, after one rally she will gain 15 in AI Skill Level.
Yuni Ahokainen has 1.0 XPM, after one rally she gains 4 in AI Skill Level.

Select your drivers carefully!
How is the AI skill level in the "Drivers" menu determined?
Average of the two squad members. It's very slightly more complex than that, but it's along the lines of that idea. Just remember not to skimp on spending on a good co-driver. Or if you've got bad driver, maybe you could- *shot*

What is AI Value?
The "AI Value" parameter in Juan's Car Editor. Higher values dictate tighter lines and less sliding, lower values will allow the car to slide more and sometimes run looser lines. Which one is faster is up to your setup, car, and the stage at hand.

I got all the other values put into my car, but what about kerbs and loose gravel values?
Kerbs grip = same as tarmac (keep it simple...)
Loose gravel grip = same as gravel (I thought this was obvious, but just in case no-one else has figured that out.)

What are the rules?
1. Teams / Squads
- A manager can have as many teams or "squads" as he wants - but none of these squads may share CR between each other.
- A manager cannot pick two of the same squad member, nor can he pick a squad member already picked by his rivals.
- A manager can pick whatever car he likes from the list.
- A manager can't spend more than 500,000 CR on his squad.
- A squad is defined as the manager, the car, the driver, and the navigator.
- Team data for the round must be posted publicly.
- If the competition begins with less than 12 squads, "jobber" squads with hopeless members will be entered. Their cars will be undeveloped and will have AI skill level of -15 of whatever is the lowest AI skill level. Example: The lowest AI level for this round is 26 (Cirno9 WRT), so the jobber skill level is 11. If you lose to these guys, you have really messed up something.

2. Cars
- Teams are free to choose their "Base Stats" (Engine, Chassis, and Aerodynamics) as long as their budget is not exceeded only at the start of the season, or when they enter their first rally.
- Teams can change their setup for the next rally as much as they want.
- Teams cannot change setups between "days" of rally, only tires.
- Wear % will be defined in GeneRally settings.
- Setups must be submitted on the Thursday 23:59 (GMT) before the next rally.
- It is OK to select the same tire for multiple days, even all three - in fact this might even be a good idea...
- In the case of rallies which are only two days and not three, your selection for the third will be ignored.

3. Rallies
- A rally is two days (Saturday and Sunday) long.
- A day consists of multiple stages.
- Settings:
1 lap
15% fuel consumption
Tire wear dependent on tire selection
80 kg fuel weight
50% damage

- Drivers go one by one, taking turns attacking the stage.
- One attempt only.
- Fastest combined total time wins.
- If an incident occurs where the car is at 100% damage during any stage of the rally, it is out of the rally and that squad scores no points.

4. Championship
- Championship is contested by single squads (team of navigator/driver).
- In case of tie, most wins breaks it, if that is tied, most 2nds, most 3rds, etc. until tie is broken.

5. Points
1st = 25 points
2nd = 18 points
3rd = 15 points
4th = 12 points
5th = 10 points
6th = 8 points
7th = 6 points
8th = 4 points
9th = 2 points
10th = 1 points
11th and below = nothing

Where are the rallies?
- The season will contain a maximum of 8 rallies.

Schedule:
May 6th-8th - ADAC Rally Germany by Bouncebackability (3 day rally)
May 13th-15th - Rallye Bohemia by Dan Hakulin (3 day rally)
May 21st-22nd - Repco Rally Australia by Jack/Rat Boy (2 day rally)

June 17th-19th - Neste Oil Rally Finland by Otto Wilson (3 day rally)
June 24th-26th - Rally Canada by Dan Hakulin (3 day rally)

How will replays be presented?
Each stage will have a merged replay of the top six, then the next six, so on, besides the normal image showing the day's results.

Are you actually going to go forward with this?
Yes, thanks to new skills learned in Excel I can implement solutions to make complex things simpler. You can setup a team with in a matter of 10 minutes or less. 5 minutes or less to pick tires each week should be enough to keep you coming back. You can spend as much time you want on this...

Hooho, I'm in once again! And I'll say the drivers now, since I don't have the time to do the proper settings yet. (I just want these names. :P ) Mio Kojima and Minami Kohara will be under my control. The complete file stuff will be in this post once I justs get back home from school..

Edit:
So here we go!

Kimono Kemono ReisuChímu, controlled by 1nsane joins the racing field. They managed to get a good car package from Ford, which should help at least a little to balance out the "minor" lack of skill of the drivers. The driver for the team will be "the daydreamer", Minami Kohara and Mio Kojima will be reading the notes as well as she just can! She plays bass so she should know what the notes are!
Anyway, the complete setup is here.. The colours might change if they get some better sponsors, now they just have the ST-oil (Slimy Tentacle) as their main sponsor, making the car black and green.

-Squad Navigator, how does it change the performance of our team? You'll made an average of Driver skill level & Navigator skill level for the AI level?

-What is the "AI value"?

-How can we chose the "car setup work" and the tires if we don't know where we'll drive?

- Squad navigator and driver's average determine the AI level
- AI value is the "AI Value" parameter in .car files/in car editor
- Schedule isn't made yet, I need to ask Dan and Maciej1 if I can use their rallies. I'll be sending messages to them, hopefully they will say yes or I've got a big problem.

Peninsula Motorsports is entering with the tried-and-true Subaru Impreza, painted in fetching red and purple. Driving will be the experienced German, Arne Fischer, while Jin Li will be reading the notes. Attached is a copy of our "prototype" machine, to be fully set up for each rally as it comes. We may enter another squad if we stop being so lazy can find funding for it.

Hey bro I'm already in Cirno9 World Rally Team... sorry :(

As a suggestion keeping within your budget I can suggest British bloke John Smith as a navigator - he'll give you a healthy boost to AI skill level, or save a few extra CR for upgrades by plopping Louise de la Sarthe in "my" place

Go ahead man, you can post also an additional squad too if you want (San Marino Run and It's a Team both in contention for the title?)

So my navigator is Kenta Nagata.

I use It's a Team to tarmac races(like i.e. GRACE) and San Marino Run to rallycrosses(like IRC)

Do you think you can keep a list of which drivers are available? Maybe a list of drivers in general, so we don't have to look through the Excel file to see them all?

Due to an overhaul in the "Experience" system, updated versions of all team's Excel files and tracks will be posted at the end of Saturday.
- The previous Experience system was "linear", which was unrealistic. Now it uses a more realistic "logistic growth" style. That basically means, drivers improve quickly at first, then learn more slowly.
- Nearly all drivers have received new XP Multipliers due to an oversight in balance.
- The change concerns only AI level skill. Since it is the first round none of the XP system changes take effect.

It seems squad managers are running short on choices.
- Once again, as this is only the first round, everyone is still free to change squad members.
- The roster update will see somewhere between 5 to 40 members being added.
- Cheap contracts seem really popular.

If squad managers are interested, Citroen, Ford, and Mitsubishi are interested in supplying an additional group of models. They are:
- Citroen DS3 WRC
- Ford Fiesta WRC
- Mitsubishi Colt Rally-sprint

If you "take over" a "jobber squad", you're essentially doing the same thing as starting a new squad. You'd have to replace the car and squad members (because you can't select a Citroen DS3 R3, nor have Noelle Vermilion or Tsubaki Yayoi as squad members because they're supposed to suck horribly).
