Auto racing is perhaps the most exciting and most dangerous of sports that men and women participate in at any given time. It is one where the fragile nature of life is always put on the line at any given practice session, qualifying lap, and race at any racing venue in the world. We were often reminded of how fragile life truly is by just going out there every day in the world, never knowing when "the call" will be made for us to depart the world.
On October 16th, 2011, we were reminded once again when Dan Wheldon died in a fatal accident during the final race of the IZOD IndyCar Series at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Originally, this competition was to be named the Kutford100, but after Dan Wheldon's fatal crash, we have decided to rename it the Dan Wheldon Memorial Trophy to honor him.
The Dan Wheldon Memorial Trophy is a 100-kilometer oval endurance held at Bouncebackability's awesome 2010 remake of Kutford, and using the original Formula. We are glad to have finally brought endurance racing back to life with this competition.
Endurance-type competitions are one of the most missed competition throughout the GeneRally community, what is more the real american oval-races are missing from GRIF lately (there wasn't any since the Indy 500 races and the GRASCAR). We hope if Dan could see us at the moment, he would be pleased about an idea of a Kutford 100 what is held for the honour of his memory.
You were a great person and a brave and fast racecar driver. Rest in peace, Danny Boy!
