Post Competitions ideas
Well, if you have ideas but you don't have time, you can't or you just want to make an interest check before launching the stuff, you can post your compo ideas and projects here !

Actually, this is the "Track Ideas, W.I.P. and Teasers/Trailers" thread for compos ;)

Of course, if I'm starting this thread, it is because I have an idea (you should know me now), I think it the current status is "interest check", and I would wait a few more weeks before starting really working on it but here's the project :

GR Nations World Cup

As title may suggests, this is a kind of GR's World Cup, so it would be a tournament, just like the "F1cup league" or the "GRC Gala" which would be done by team, of course, by team, you have to understand "Nations". Each country would have to make a certain number of duels. There will be a Group Stage and the Knockout stage (with quarter finals, semi finals, final and even round of 16 there enough nations).

About "Team" composition, well, actually, the idea is to let everybody race for their country, however, only the best performance shall be counted. Well, to explain precisely how it works, I have to explain how the match works : It would be a double challenge system, which means TT and Hotlap at the very same time.

It would be a competition, and it would have a similar system as F1cup from s15 to s19, with 5 tracks per week and 5 laps per track, you won't have to do more, just 5 laps per track.

Match score will be calculated as follows :
  • Absolute fastest lap for each country (1 pt * 5)
  • Absolute best total time for each country (1 pt * 5)
  • Cumulated fastest laps of each track for each country (1 pt)
  • Cumulated total times of each track for each country (1 pt)
So it is possible to score up to 12 goals per match. Of course, the country which scores the more goals will win the match

However, you should really understand the word "absolute" in this text, because it is the real absolute time on the discipline and on the track which will be counted, which means that if for example, me and Murano plays for France and Murano does the best times on tracks 1, 2 and 4, I will count his time for tracks 1,2 et 4, however, if I can do bette in tracks 3 et 5, I will count my times.

And the concept works on the very same track for different types, if Murano does the best total time (Time Trial) but if I do the best fastest lap (hotlap) for instante, I will count Murano's time for TT but my time for HL.

In conclusion, all what you have to understand, is that we count the ABSOLUTE best time for score

In case of tie, if we're in the group phase, we don't give a sh*t... As points will have the same system as soccer groups/championship, with 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a defeat.

However, in the knockout phase, as we need a winner anyway, I would count the best cumulated times of the "2nd drivers", and so on... if we still tied, then I will take the login time of the last scorer of each team (ie. the last driver of each time who actually made a best time).

About team numbers, the minimum would be 12, the maximum would be 32, but as I know that some guys will register their country and won't race, I know it will be very complicated to manage, anyway, here's the composition of the groups depending of the number of countries entered
  • 12 countries : 4 groups of 3 countries
  • 16 countries : 4 groups of 4 countries
  • 20 countries : 4 groups of 5 countries
  • 24 countries : 8 groups of 3 countries
  • 28 countries : 4 groups of 4 countries and 4 groups of 3 countries (8 groups in total)
  • 32 countries : 8 groups of 4 countries

There would be 4 or 8 (depending of number of countries and number of groups) that would be "seeded nations", which means that they would not be in the same group in the group phase, after then, we could imagine several pots or a totally random draw for other countries.

About cars, original cars or the update are considered, when could I organize it ? Ideally in a period where we have few compos.

Otherwise, jo.sk gave me several suggestions, but not really applicable for me (at least regarding how I would set up this project)
  • Teams would choose their tracks : Not applicable as sign up would be free (everybody can race for his country, even if he is a total rookie), so there are no "team captains" that could choose the tracks.
  • Put the 3 types of racing (HL + TT + Race) in the same round : I think the Double Challenge will be the easier concept, the scoring system is quite complicated to explain, I don't want the race system to be as hard to explain.
  • Qualifying round : I may organize a "validation round" during sign up period, so you would have to race to complete your sign up.

If you have other suggestions, feel free to reply !

What about Generally origins cup.

Like a competition with original cars and tracks?

:iagree:

Looks like very good idea, James, but I'm not sure if I understood the pointing. What mean cummulated lap/times?

Yep

for example :
A team did these best times : 5,75 ; 10,57 ; 12,58 ; 9,57 ; 18,52

The cumulated time will be : 5,75 + 10,57 + 12,58 + 9,57 + 18,52 = 56,99

Actually, before making that kind of compo, you have to know that GR original tracks have some shortcuts, the most notable example is Nyrporl, so you'll have to modify tracks (do we need Rabinas permission ? if yes, I guess it will be complicated to get it, anyway, it is much easier to check when you know it is impossible to shortcut), or you'll have to adapt rules in consequence (or simply authorize shortcuts).

But IMO ToM is quite near of this spirit although it is ToM tracks and not necessary GR tracks.

A gruppenhotlap?

This would be really great compo, James.

Ok, maybe I'll give it a try. But I have to prepare FSS (the calendar) and GLMS (the whole stuff) first I guess. ;)

Anyway, now 2009 is over, I can determine the "seeded nations"

Pot 1
Seeded nations if there are 4 groups
Italy ///
France ///
Brazil ///
Finland ///

Pot 2
Seeded nations if there are 8 groups
Greece /// (thank Akouk :D)
Switzerland /// (thank Raska :D)
Russia /// (thank Tony :D)
Germany /// (thank Magicj :D)

No really big surprises I guess, especially for Top 4 who haven't changed for much time, of course all these nations have to take part to be seeded. ;)

By the way, the eligible countries will be the same's as GWR, or if the country is not classified, it will be done according to IOC countries list.

Yeah sure, but it's a little funny you're planning to create an actual compo and take an historical ranking, i mean IMO it's unfair because for example i don't see much participation of russian drivers (and yes, russia has/had one of the best GR drivers) this year.

And sure it's funny too you said Alexsara has participated in many more events than others top GR drivers and now you are restricting the entry list

BTW I'll continue to take part in your other compos, so no problem.

Just my 2 cents.

Regards!!

I just need a reference for the first edition, but I can take into consideration the tournament results for next editions of this compos ;)

But anyway, I don't expect something exceptional, if I have 12 running nations, it would be already nice.

My problem is that he basically won the GWR because he raced around 100 more events than top 10 drivers

What i wanted to say is that with your selection you are giving him the chance to take part in events other drivers can't take part

But really i don't have anything against your decission (surely i'm anxious about FSS start) just i liked the 1st post/idea of this thread and i was a little disappointed not being able to take part. ;)

As I said, I don't understand because the compo is open to everyone, the seeded nations stuff is just nations that can't be in the same group during the preliminary phase ;)

It's more an announce than an idea... But MdP and me are preparing the second edition of the GR America's Cup. :whirl:

For the old wolves who remembered the first edition made in 2005, there will be some changes. Firstly, it'll be a compo where we race in teams/syndicates. Those teams/syndicates have to represent a nation but can be composed of drivers/sailors of differents nations. Also it shouldn't be the usual GR racing teams, for exemple, I'll not race for the Team Esperanza but for "Arichguy" the GR parody of Alinghi. The defender of the America's Cup (so I'll have some spots in the team..), but here we'll have no discussions about the boats ! :)
The teams should have the same number of members, so it'll depend of the interest but it could be between 3 to 6 sailors.

I'll start a thread soon about that and for organising the teams...

How about a rally series, where you do a set of stages as part of a rally, doing several at once (for example, Dan Hakulin's Rallye Bohemia, where you'd do the first 6 stages in one login window, or whatever number, and the other 6 in the next login window), and have 3 or 4 rallies? I could try and knock up more Group N spec cars (beyond the current Evo IX and two Imprezas), and I'm willing to co-host such a championship with someone more notable. :)

about cars :D I thought aboutS2000 rally cars (Fabia, 207, Punto, Fiesta, Proton Neo, Lancer IX and others) unfortunately I don´t know if anyone made any of them....so if you are interested you can try to make them

actually I will use this format of rallying ;) every rally divided into 3 Days and 5 Rallies in one season. Could be quite interesting IMO :rally:
