I'd like to know the reason of permanent ban of this account 1 hour after creation. The reason wasn't explained on banlist.

The reason is obvious from the name, IMHO. Spamming.

To explain bit more, where problem happened: in banning form are two rows - ''Reason for ban'' and ''Reason shown to the banned'' - the second displays the info in ban list. By mistake Paw filled just the first of the rows by reason ''spamming''.

And yes, it was spambot.

This guy actually managed to post 3 times, putting an actual guess to my guess a car round. But yeah, he is a moronic spammer.

There's reason: spamming. It's so obvious, that your question is useless, because includes searched answer.

Ah thanks, I just saw another forum and the cheeky little guy edited his posts days after he originally posted it. How ingenious of the slimy little git! :misch:

Because this is about bans, im just asking - why do spambots and such first get banned and then just their account removed?

Cant you just remove their account in once instead of blocking them first?

Yeah why can't we just get rid of them? Or permanently ban their user name so they won't be able to rejoin?

I've got a sugesstion, which also works at new spammers: If a user post a post, a mod or an admin have to approve their post. If the user gets three approvals, he'll be able to use all forum features and to post without approvals. I know it from another forum and no spambot has succeeded to spam after the admin had brought it in there. ;)

The reason usernames aren't perma-banned is so that legitimate users can register in the future with those names, also, theoretically, a massive attack on the forum could end up with lots of perma-banned accounts that make a mess everywhere, I would guess. xD

Definitely possible and commonly used option, but no, we're trying to keep this forum new-users friendly, so we don't use any settings like avatar/signature/PMs/BBCodes/smilies/posting new topic after 3rd/5th/10th post, similarly we don't want to bother the majority of fair new users by being under an approval for first posts and waiting on mods actions just because the 2-4 spam posts per 2-3 weeks.

@Ivo: I can understand your argument. ;) It would be okay if you won't use this function, because our forum isn't that much affected by spammers.
