order threads by newest post

Post by Crono »

Old Thread is closed so i have to create a new one, sorry for that.

My problem (wrong order of Threads) is still there :(
Ok, in most Forums (I think all i know ^^) threads are sorted by the date of they're last answers and not by the date of the start of a thread.
I have added two pictures (one of the thread-list and the other shows my settings in the control panel)

i dont know how to solve this, sorry, but why would you want to sort them by the date the thread was created, surely you would miss out on so many posts in threads that are used regularly over long periods of time? :2c:

This is exactly what I DONT want!!

I would be happy if my threads get sorted correctly like in any other bulletin board!

I tryed the sorting options at the bottom already. Same settings as shown in your screenshot.

Because some of the topics are sticky. (1st is global announcement, then there are 2 sticky topics on the picture)

yeah, the top two, with the i icon on the right hand side are sickied threads.

well the only other thing i guess you could mean is the thread 'high resolution screenshots' but thats out of sync because it was moved when the most recent post in the thread was between March06 1.03pm and March07 8.42pm however the date is wrong becase new posts have been made in that thread since the topic was moved...

I've been thinking on this one, but to be honest never found the time to make these logos... Could be possible that I'll upload them soon.

The icon of GR is not much clearer than present icons. The ''i'' at least clearly mean info. We can differ maybe sticky and announcement, we will discuss it with mods. And IMHO icons are part of forum identity, so maybe we should try to create our own. ;)

"The icon of GR is not much clearer than present icons."
Really sure about that?

Anyway, a little bit more "GeneRally" in the Design would be nice :D

I would only suggest, to make that new 'no new posts' icon black/white, so it would be easily distinguishable :)

It all is not so easy. If we want to have it compatible with rest of skin(s), we need 12 icons x 2:
A.: 1. for new (unread) post(s), 2. for new posts in popular topics, 3. for new posts in locked topics, 4. for new posts of sticky topics, 5. for new posts in announcements, 6. for new posts in moved topics.
B.: 1. for no new posts, 2. for no new posts in popular topics, 3. for no new posts in locked topics, 5. for no new posts in announcements, 6. for no new posts in moved topics.
C.: Mutation of each of the icon from A. and B. with a marking, if the user already replied in the topic at least once or not.

So it means 24 new icons to make, if I count well (but per only one skin, so needed to multilplied by number of forum's skins too). If every of the icon would based on GR icon, the forum would be much more messy than is now IMHO, because all the 24 icons would be looking very close to each other. All the meanings should be simple, clearly understandable, clearly distinguishable from each other and easily rememberable. So it's not easy thing to make any new icons fast. :(

Who needs more than one theme?
Why not choose one theme and change it a little bit?

Just as we have that now (Serenity Green, Serenity Dark Blue and simple Serenity). Anyway I think I should take out prosilver and subsilver themes out, as they don't look really... pro enough... :D
