Formula One Forum Game - Beta Season

Post by Joey Zyla »

1. Gameplay

This is a Formula One-based forum game that anyone who is a member of GeneRally International Forum may play. It's a rather simple game, and little participation is required.

2. Participation

All you are required to do to be able to compete in each race is to send a private message to me like this:

---------------------------------------------------------------

Practice Risks - [1-5]
Qualifying Risks - [1-5]
Race Risks - [1-5]

Qualifying/Start Tyre - [Prime, Option, or Wet]
Pit 1 Tyre - [Prime, Option, or Wet]
Pit 2 Tyre - [Prime, Option, or Wet]
Pit 3 Tyre - [Prime, Option, or Wet]

---------------------------------------------------------------

2.1 Risks Explained

Risks are a value from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest). Lower risks result in slower lap times, but lap times are more consistent and the rate of tyre wear is decreased. Higher risks result in quicker laps, but the chance of error is higher, and tyre wear is increased.

2.2 Tyres Explained

Prime tyres give your car less grip than Option tyres, but do not wear as quickly. Option tyres give your car more grip than Prime tyres, but wear more quickly. Wet tyres are good for wet conditions, but wear extremely quickly on a dry track. Weather conditions do not change over the course of a race weekend.

3. Joining

To join, post the following on this thread:

---------------------------------------------------------------

First Name - [Your first name, but if you would rather that kept private, use a random name generator]
Last Name - [Your last name, but if you would rather that kept private, use a random name generator]

I don't think I understand your question, but I'll try to explain. In this game you are a driver, trying to do as well as possible by setting a strategy before each race. See section 2 of the OP to see what I'm talking about.

The results are based on your car level, risks, race strategy, and whether or not the track is one of your favorite tracks.

I think he wants to know not only where they come from, but how they are determined. A formula, or some program that simulates the race based on these values, or what? The way you have it stated sounds kind of sketchy to me :?

I have a spreadsheet listing all the tracks with dry and wet times for all risk levels, as well as additional time added on based on tyre compounds, tyre wear, car levels, chance of crashing, and driver mistake multiplier.

Driver Mistake Multiplier

Based on risks, with higher risks having a higher multiplier value. Driver mistake in milliseconds = (RANDOM.ORG number between 1-1000)(Multiplier)

Basically the formula is L = R+D+C+T

L - Lap time, R - best possible time with given risk, D - Driver error, C - Added time assigned based on the car/team, T - Added time for tyre wear and compound

For those wondering about race weekends:

Practice

Each Friday, Practice takes place. It is a one-hour long session, with each driver doing ten laps. I post the results only after it is finished. In practice, higher risks result in more information about the car setup, resulting in better qualifying times, but more wear to the car and tyres.

Qualifying

Each Saturday, Qualifying takes place. It works just like real Formula One qualifying, with the first session having 24 drivers do 5 laps each, 17 drivers doing four laps each in the second session, and ten drivers doing three laps each in the final session. Everyone must start on the same compound they qualified on, however, the exact tyre can be switched. Results are posted after each session.

Race

On Sunday, it is race day at last. The running order is updated every ten of the race distance (rounded to the nearest whole number), so for example Spa (44 laps) would be updated after laps 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, and 44.

Deadline for joining has been extended until at least six players join, unless six players join prior to the already scheduled deadline.
