A couple new guesses and illustrations have risen up on the looks of the cars next year. If everything goes well and the designers think about the outlooks at least a little, the cars could end up looking something as good as the 2008-2009 McLaren. If it goes badly... We'll need thicker screens to make sure they won't break under the stress of the badness.

Let's start with the more optimistic looks:

A guess from an Italian magazine. (Focus on the image on top right, as the main image doesn't seem to follow the scales.)
Image
Wow, such smooth, so aerodynamic, wow.
Image
This might work, too. Still nice and smooth.
Image
Then in the middle would be something like this. Pretty smooth, but a little drop is left to remind us of 2012.
Image
And if everything goes badly:
Image
Or the very extreme we saw earlier by AutoSport:
Image
Another illustration of the more extreme hideousness:
Image
The teams are allowed to use vanitypanels, but with the complaints about the weight limit being too low, the engineers don't want to add any extra weight on the cars

So, since there's going to be a while of quiet period, we have time to focus on something off track. And it's provided by Anthony Hamilton. So he has a case against Di Resta over being fired from the manager's position. But you'd think the case was against Hamilton considering how much he has been tampering the evidence. The latest change being that now some of the lost evidence just magically reappeared on his backdoor. More about this at Telegraph. You might also want to find some older news about this, since Anthony Hamilton's actions have been pretty sad/hilarious over the last week or so.

Sauber has confirmed Gutierrez as their second driver. Sirotkin works as the test driver. So Sirotkin will propably drive in 2015...

Or maybe Sauber needs every cent to solve financial problems. (Sutil's Medion, Gutierez's Telmex and Sirotkin's Russian sponsors)

Well, that's true too. :P But if Sirotkin gets, say, 5 FP1 drives (not counting Russia as that's just obvious), he's a pretty likely replacement to which ever seat gets open. Okay, it's a bit too early to plan on 2015 seats. :D

There's an official list from FIA, which driver which race number did select. Or at least what we know.

Code: Select all

Infiniti Red Bull Racing
--- ------ ---
Sebastian Vettel : 1 (if he won't be champion, he'd use 5)
Daniel Ricciardo : 3

Mercedes Gp Petronas
--- ------ ---
Lewis Hamilton: 44
Nico Rosberg: 6

Scuderia Ferrari
--- ------ ---
Fernando Alonso: 14
Kimi Räikkönen: 7

Lotus F1 Team
--- ------ ---
Romain Grosjean: 8
Pastor Maldonado: 13

McLaren Mercedes
--- ------ ---
Jenson Button: 22
Kevin Magnussen: 20

Sahara Force India F1 Team
--- ------ ---
Nico Hülkenberg: 27
Sergio Pérez: 11

Sauber F1 Team
--- ------ ---
Adrian Sutil: 99
Esteban Gutiérrez: 21

Scuderia Toro Rosso
--- ------ ---
Jean-Eric Vergne: 25
Daniil Kvyat: 26

Williams F1 Team
--- ------ ---

So the numbers in use are

Code: Select all

(1), 3, 5, 6, 7, 8
11, 13, 14, 17, 19
20, 21, 22, 25, 26, 27
44
77
99
It's actually pretty interesting how so many ended up using 2X numbers. Most of them are based on winning a championship with that number on earlier category.
Another point to note is how many prime numbers got taken. Only one (that being two) was not picked from the 1-20 range.

Things seem to be clearer at Caterham's drivers: more sources say that Kamui Kobayashi and Giedo van der Garde may drive the green wonders this year.

Nope, your guess was wrong. :P

Caterham just put a video on Youtube showing the drivers.

Kobayashi + Ericsson as drivers, Frijns as reserve driver

Vd Garde is the reserve driver for Sauber.
Di Resta gets a seat in DTM.

So for once we get a full grid before the first practice. That's a good change.

Kamui and Marcus did not wait with the announcement of their race numbers. Kobayashi is going to use no. 10 and Ericsson is to use no. 9. Out of that, Max Chilton's number 4 is also added to the list.

Re: F1 - Season 2014 *Spoilers*

In the end the driver's lineup turned out to be pretty cool.

Right now I'm happy that it was Maldonado who went to Lotus, as the team is in pieces. Every week there has been news about how x amount of engineers have left the team. Yesterday the team announced that they've sealed a new sponsor deal, so the team should survive for the next year at least and we get to see if everything is bad and it's everyone else's fault for Maldonado.

It's going to be interesting to see how Magnussen can manage through the season. He came from pretty much nowhere (to me at least) and immediately got a McLaren seat. But McLaren has the skill of pringing a relatively unknown driver in who actually knows how to drive.

Another interesting newcomer (of the remaining two :P ) has got to be Ericsson. Apparently he has been pretty quick on previous GP2 seasons, but in 2013 he seemed to be banging the walls at least once a weekend.

Williams might be the team that rises as they got pretty many of the engineers who fled from Renault. Since they also finally found what was wrong with the 2013 car, they should now know to not do that. Massa should also be the right person to develop a car.

Just a week to go until we get to see the cars and hear the engines. :yummy: A couple of teams will reveal their cars a day or two before the test, the rest will reveal them once the garage doors open.

Apparently these dates are the only known ones? FIA lists just these. Lotus and Force India haven't said anything, that much I know. As for Red Bull, no idea.
McLaren January 24 Online
Ferrari January 25 Online
Mercedes January 28 Jerez, Spain
Caterham January 28 Jerez, Spain
Williams January 28 Jerez, Spain

Apparently Bahrain is going to be a night race. At least it hides the sand.

Red bull is the 28th at Jerez too.

As Lotus wont be at the first test, expect it afterwards

Wow, Force India ended up being the first one to show their car (properly). No official release yet, but an image in Twitter.

Personally I dont like it, it looks a bit of a mess with the random patches of white on the nose and rear wing, and the sudden red Claro logo sticks out like a sore thumb; couldnt they have used a white version?

White cars were always beautiful to me ( like old Sauber :weep: ) but this one looks crazy, in a good way. Too much of black for me but we can't do too much. Some white black stripes would be cool.

Whoa, that's way too much different colours...no problem with black/white green and orange but red and blue bring too much mess into this. White background can keep more colours than black background. But I quite like that liveries don't stay the same forever :bg:.

Yeah, the livery may change mid-season or sooner or later than that, who knows? I hope the new Sauber won't get a black or a similar dark colour scheme along these lines. Not that I dislike black liveries in general, though.

Looking at it more closely, yeah, the blue and red should go. Maybe also have the sideflaps in full black or orange. Otherwise I just love the black + orange combination so much and they also use the sort of green I've always liked.

Actually, the McLaren reveal will be very interesting as apparently Vodafone is not the title sponsor anymore. In fact they have no title sponsor at all currently. Maybe we'll see a bit of a different shade of gray this year. At least there's 50 shades to choose from.
Caterham will also have a bit of a change with the colors since, as seen on the video above, they have gotten rid of the yellow and are now just using green, lighter green and white. If the team stays 2 seconds behind the lead, maybe we can call the car "cucumber"...
