Today we´ve implimented a very easy way to remake/improve the existing textures (512x512, 256 colors) and replace it with a modern style/size of 2048x2048pixels and unlimited colors.
Take a look on youtube!

Place the new 2048x2048 png texture in the same directory as the track file - ready.
Remake done.

In the preview video you can see both formats:
1x the old one with 512x512, 256 colors format (..._old.trk)
and
1x the new 2048x2048, unlimited colors format (...1.trk)

Now its easy possible to use every old track and give them a new, modern and sharp look.

Really nice Elharter, and each one of you who's working on GeneRacing ! :goal:

Textures are splendid, and I imagine all those old tracks transformed into hd version, and the new ones we could create in 2048x2048, plus unlimited colors (blue !) !

The cars update are a great step forward too. Some may prefer big round tires like before, but for me it's ok.

In the dark, discreetly but surely, you're making real efforts to make GR2 real to us.

Just for this, a big thank you and keep up the good work ! :bg:

(wasn't there already a topic for GeneRacing updates ? ;) )

I have mixed feelings about unlimited colours. True, it's not reasonable to keep GR's colour limitations, but on the other hand those limitations were what made the game look coherent across various trackmaking styles. Now, theoretically everyone could use very different colours for grass, tarmac etc... Wouldn't it be better to have some predefined textures library (of course extendable, if you build your track in a non-standard "biome" like swamp or savannah you'd really need to have some matching colours)?

And the car physics is still wacky :P

I have to disagree about colors but I understand what you said.

13 colors have been the standard from the beginning so it may be weird to see new colors, hd textures and so on in tracks.

But despite having the same shared colors, tracks were all different not mainly because of colors, but because of their personality and creation skills.

I will always remember Trigger Happy for his neat, super precise but simple fictional tracks. I'll always remember Garbre, PitbullFIN and vira lata for their awesome work on landmap. Dragon for his micro tracks, Glen for his innovative trackmaking methods and ideas, Masa for his fun and generous world. TuomoH for his experiments which stretched the possibilities of GR... (Sorry for the ones I forgot, you are more than 1000 trackmakers so :D )

I think our style will still be as different as it may be in GR, as we'll always recognize the work of an artist, whatever the support he uses to.

... However I'm agree with you with physics, but if it's drifting car physics we can call it quite good ? Have to work on the other ones now. :D

Thanks a lot, your words are motivating.
Yes - if you see the direct difference between old tracks and tracks which got a remake you would scream. Its a big step forward.

Everyone who keeps the big round tires can keep it - why not. Everything is possible.

Mhhh i wouldnt say "GR2" because we do NOT wanna replace GeneRally or GeneRally2. It should be more a sequel to SlickNSlide or GeneRally. We love GeneRally and support this game and we can never replace it, for sure. But yes, we will keep going on game-development to give a good game for the comunity!

Thanks for you words!
(yes, a general one, ive create this topic as a special :p - ive tried to get a full category here in Forum for GeneRacing to keep the overview)

Yes, i understand your feelings lorenzo. But if you take a look around the world and all leagues you see that they are very much colorpalettes existing to change colors and get a different colorstyle for the tracks. So, we think the "wish" to be free is still existing.

And yes - some things MUST BE limited to ensure some technical things like "surface behaviours". The car detects the surface regarding the texture-color. So, a 100% full freedome isnt possible of course.
This kind of "remake possibility" is the first try to see whats happening. Especially regarding the 2nd PNG File in directory, because there is a actionpoint open for a new track file format called *.trc which includes the new objects, new textures, etc, etc.
So, let´s call it "Try Version1" for the remake part :) for sure its not the end of the sentence....

YES! The physics part is the biggest one.
We´ve updated this part in 0.0.7h too with several changes. The balance changed. The steering got a big improvement. The collissions are better, but for sure still bugy.
We are very dependent on the inputs of the players because of to less time to play 100 rounds in a row at the moment.

We are developing on 3 parts at the same time, our graphic mate is testing, testing, testing for carimporter, etc, etc.
Too less time, too less budget and a whole big list of todos :)

If you have good and useful tipps or hints please throw it in (discord) and i ensure that an improvement will follow!

thank you
