I could use one of those. For me to avoid it to shut down my PC, I deactivate the Automatic Updates, but it reactivates like every three or four days.

*I share this PC with my dad, and shared with my brother and his girlfriend (Shared, since they bought a new one that stays in their room and we can't use, leaving me and my dad with the old one, now Gaming-VideoCardless, that runs ps1 emulators slow), so I don't know well what's everything in there.

Now serious, I had a nice background, that I used with a different Windows skin (a black one), but I deleted it after I made a backup disc, and now I can't use it since the DVD reader doesn't work.

Long boring explanation below:

Well, it DO read discs, but after I take out the disk and close the disc tray it stops working, to the point that the icon vanishes from My Computer.
And I don't want to risk it, it can eventually crash with the disc still in! And there's no shop for repairing it close to my home, and we don't have a car. Well, my brother have, but he can't take the pc downtown, not to mention the car is almost always in the mechanic.

To make a program that stops automatic updates:
Launch Notepad
Type "net stop wuauserv" without quotes
Save it as a .bat file.
Run it.
