Music taste

Post by The Noose »

What is your music taste?

In other way. What kind of music do you like? And have you been in any gigs?

I like to listen Heavy Metal like Arch Enemy, Ajattara, Kiuas, Iron Maiden, Diablo, COB, Kreator, Insomnium etc.
Last summer I was in Iron Maidens gig in Helsinki at Olympic Stadium. Great gig.
And in year 2003 I was in Iron Maiden gig at Hartwall Arena.

Most of the time: METAL, but I'll listen to any music (Except Hip-Hop, German "Schlager" and Gospel).

I've seen many gigs:
Rammstein
Metal Church
Twisted Sister
Motörhead (A few times)
Black Sabbath (With Ozzy)
Thin Lizzy
Sepultura
.....And many more.
BTW, I've seen Iron maiden two times, once in 1983, and in 1989.
Last good metal-albums I listened to, were VADER, and DETHKLOK.

Ah, music thread - I always love these.

I like lots of music from quite different genres so I can't really say a certain genre any more. When I was younger, I went through metal and alternative phases, also was a big nu-metal fan maybe 10 years ago. I'm more into feeling than technique, and if there's something that differs from the usual, it grabs my attention. I've never been a fan of mainstream music, even though there's some good stuff even there as well. My least favorite music is Finnish iskelmä, I guess it's somewhat related to "schlager" TLN mentioned.

My biggest favorites are Sonic Youth, Björk, Beck, The Doors, Ceebrolistics, Sven Väth, The Mars Volta, Massive Attack, and Matmos. I've really gotten into 2nd and 3rd albums of Muse lately. Two bands I loved in my youth big time are still with me, namely Metallica and Nirvana. Lately, I've also re-discovered Type O Negative. Other than those, I could make a long list.

I was more active at going to gigs when I was younger but I still go if there's something very interesting, or often attend one festival. The last big band I saw was Metallica in July, it was my third time seeing them ('96 and '99 before that). Some of my favorite gigs from the past have been RHCP twice (the 2nd time I even saw The Mars Volta but didn't know the band then...), Pantera & Slayer on the same bill, Deftones, R.E.M., the Smashing Pumpkins. Last summer I finally managed to see Sonic Youth, my all-time favorite band, and it was even in their home town, New York, so that was something very special for me.

Well, because I'm mainly into metal/Hardrock, doesn't mean I don't like other genres.
In the mid-eighties, my friends always wondered why I listened to Metalllica, Maiden, Motörhead...AND Depeche Mode & Yazoo. :D
I think that if someone's listening music from one genre only, he'd be missing out other very good music.
In my case, it depends in what kind of mood I am.

Some of my all-time favorite albums:

- Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene
- Jean Michel Jarre - Equinoxe
- Joe Satriani - Surfing with the alien
- Yngwie Malmsteen - Rising force
- Yngwie Malmsteen - Marching out
- Yazoo - You & me both
- Yazoo - Upstairs at Eric's
- Depeche Mode - A broken frame
- Kraftwerk - Man-Machine / Mensch-Maschine
- Tangerine Dream - Ricochet
- Tangerine Dream - Stratosphere
- Magna Carta - Magna Carta (1969)
- Iron Maiden - The first six albums
- Metallica - The first three albums
- Rammstein - Mutter
- Madness - The first two albums
- Bob Marley - Exodus
- Muse - Origin of symmetry
- Mekong Delta - Mekong Delta
- Alan Parsons Project - Tales Of Mystery And Imagination
- Alan Parsons Project - Turn of a friendly card
- Black Sabbath - Heaven & Hell
- Accept - Restless & Wild
- Haggard - Eppur si muove
- Air - Moon Safari
- The Mars Volta - De-loused in the comatorium
- Kyuss - ...And the circus leaves town
- Kyuss - Welcome to sky valley
- Ben Harper - Diamonds on the inside
- Blackfoot - Tomcattin'
- Candlemass - Nightfall
- Dethklok - The Deth album
- Fischer Z - Word salad
- Savatage - Hall of the mountain king
- Scorpions - Tokyo Tapes
- Judas Priest - Unleashed in the east
- Stomu Yamashta - Go too
- Jeff Wayne's War of the worlds (Never gets boring!)

These are only the ones that came into my mind, I'm sure I forgot many more.
And.....I still own a lot of vinyl-records, never sold a single one of them!! :D

Oh, just take a look at my avatar :rocks:

... yeah, it's great to see that you guys like rock/metal just like I do (my avatar is actually me with my guitar)! GR fans = rock fans, is this only by accident or is there a plot behind?

Anyway, my favorite band now is Fall of Troy, I like these fastcore-screamo things. The last show I went to was a Waco Jesus (deathgrind) / 2 Minuta Dreka (pornogrind) combo, and believe it or not the audience was mass hypnotised, people were fighting, seriously (not the usual moshpit)! I stayed behind however because I didn't want to hurt my racing finger :D

I guess that I am the only one here with a very unorthrodox taste in music:
I listen to more than one of their songs:
- Metallica (Heavy metal)
- Pendulum (Mainly DnB but other genres too)
- The Qemists (DnB with heavy rock influence)
- Motley Crue (Rock, obviously)
- T-SQUARE (Japanese Jazz Fusion - better than it seems)
- Daiki Kasho (Gran Turismo series' artist, mainly rock)
- The Prodigy (Rave, hardcore, industrial, electronic rock, and breakbeat)
- Black Tide (Heavy metal)
- Namco Sound Team (Obviously, the guys behind musics of Namco's games... genres are everywhere)
- Papa Roach (Heavy metal?)
- BeForU (Japanese Pop mostly, with influence from other genres)
- Raito (Author of Melty Blood's music, amongst other Japanese doujin games)
- m.o.v.e (Japanese Rock band, with influence a little from electronic genres)
- Uverworld (see above)
- Kotoko (Japanese Trance artist, bits and bobs of J-pop here and there)
- Hitomi Shimatani (Japanese Pop artist)

Not as frequently:
- A Perfect Circle
- Blakfish
- Scars on Broadway
- Axel Rudi Pell
- Bloc Party
- Mami Kawada
- Nana Mizuki
- Aya Hirano
- Junkie XL
- The Killers
- Linkin Park
- The Subways
...and way, way more.

Well, my musical taste is pretty much 100% electronic, and that's the music I produce too. I mostly listen to hardstyle (Showtek, Frontliner, Illuminatorz, Headhunterz, Da Tweekaz, D-Block & S-Te-Fan, Gary D, Dark E, etc... A very long list if I wanted to add all of the artists I listen to.).
Then there's hard trance/hard house/hard dance/bouncy house (Dark By Design, Phil York, Proteus, Andy Farley, Andy Whitby, Klubfiller, KB Project, Paul Glazby, Kamui, Lisa Lashes, Cosmic Gate, Alan Aztec, Audio Hedz, etc... Would be another very long list...)
Also... Some schranz or hard techno, such as Arkus P, Patrik Skoog, Robert Natus, Umek, Sven Wittekind..
(Happy) hardcore, speedcore, J-core: M1dy, Sharpnel, Spy47, REDALiCE, T+Pazolite, Technetium, Angerfist, Moleculez, Dougal, Gammer, Hixxy, Sharkey, Alkeishiukkaset.
But there's also the mainstream dance, such as Basshunter, Italobrothers, Cascada...
And last but not least house/dance from before 2005. Klubbheads, U.S.U.R.A, DJ Jean...

Ah, and the link for my own project: http://www.youtube.com/user/onensane

Edit: Oh yes, and the live sets... I've seen Gr, Byproduct and Alex Szahala live. I'm hoping for some of the big names of hardstyle to come in Finland during the next years.

I'm not so much of a heavy metal man myself. There are too many artists to list here, but I like most forms of rock, some pop, acoustic, alternative, and some of the lighter metal (generally, I like some Metallica and Iron Maiden). Some electronic randomness as well. I can't stand rap or most classical music, however. Or Amy Winehouse/Lady GaGa. *shudders at the thought*

We gonna have them in Quebec this summer for a festival called "Festival d'Ete de Quebec"... You pay about 45$ and you can see any show you want for this event so it is great :) Not sure if I gonna see them...

I listen everything which can be called music: No Rap or Hip-Hop then. Rush is obviously the greatest band ever. Favorite album: Many of them :flip:

LoL, yeah 2112 is good but there's some others too: Farewell To King, Signals, Moving Pictures, Hemisphere (Mostly for Cygnus X-1 Book II, IMHO), Presto is wonderfull :), Conterparts and Fly by Night. Well, Those build up to be almost every RUSH's album :P In fact, I personally like every album but Vapor Trails on which I only like the song Ghost Rider and Snake and Arrows which I never listened to...

EDIT: I'm presently Ripping my 6-CD bundle of the best classical pieces according to to well known meloman Edgar Fruitier who also do the voice of Mr Burns in the Quebecer french version of "The Simpsons"

Sorry, I forgot to reply to this earlier.

I'm not going to make a long list but I mean artists such as John Cage, Kemialliset Ystävät, Glenn Branca, The Shaggs... - even Matmos and Sonic Youth at their wildest. For something really out there (usually too out even for me), search for Jandek... But be warned, it's very weird, very creepy, furthest away from music I've ever heard (or maybe not - Merzbow is pure noise after all...)

Wow, only 4 names in the list I know. Benny Benassi, Darude, The Chemical Brothers and Tiesto. But why Gui Boratto is yellow-green? Brazilian? And is Deadmaus something good? I'm not fan of electronic music, but sometimes I like to liesten something like that. Usually it was The Chemical Brothers. Will look for Gui Boratto, he has somewhere obscene name. :hiya:

Mmm, my tastes are strange. Last few months I like to listen Bielorussian rock and a few Russians as I'm looking for something new, names will say nothing to you. :D
From well known artists The Beatles & John Lennon :hippy: , Cake, Pink Floyd, Rainbow, Rammstein :rocks: , Smokie and Uriah Heep.

Another metal fan here, at the moment my favorite bands are Diablo, In Flames and Dark Tranquillity but that is changing almost every week because I'm trying to find new bands to listen to, even if In Flames has stayed as a favorite for quite long time :)
