GeneRally wallpapers

Post by egamad »

I read somewhere on the forum the other day that users would like to see more wallpapers. I didn't think much of it until yesterday when I was supposed to study for my exams. :hide:

So I made a few, all originating from one main theme, and are mostly different in colours (the easiest thing to alter). I'm no pro, I've never before made any wallpapers, so this might not satisfy many people. Also I didn't know which resolution to go with, so I made them in 2560x1600 (1,5MB .jpeg alert!). I'll show a preview here and I'll post them this weekend if there'll be any interest. I won't have internet access in the meantime, but if you have any suggestions like best resolution or which filters might look good (I use GIMP), please tell me, but I'll say again, I'm not very good at this, so don't be too disappointed if I can't deliver.

I remember that there was a similar thread on RSC and there was some great wallpapers there. I think Dan Belcher and Ian.H did some good ones. I think I have them stored somewhere. Maybe could be re-uploaded here?

I think you started well, egamad, but the wallpaper is just too dark, besides I really don't like that pattern you used. Maybe some kind of gradient tool can be used instead...

I think that the resolution is OK, but still it mainly depends on what kind of screen height/width ration you use. So maybe a 4:3 and 16:9 version can be made.

As admins need to know some info to keep forum well-running for users, we have way to some anonymous datas like used operating systems, browsers, etc including resolutions (which has importance e.g. for dimensions of chosen forum skin). Here are datas from yesterday (the particular values of course variate every day little bit - +/-5, but the main trends are remarkable imho). Hopefully it will help to you and other trying to make a wallpaper.

I forgot about the wallpapers for a while there :sweatdrop: , but decided to polish one a bit, as I've been meaning to for a long time. It's a different one than in the first post (kind of gave up on that one :hide: ), and it's currently showing on my desktop. It's a 2650x1600, big enough for anyone here I believe. I hope you like it.

Here is another GR wallpaper, this time with a little advertisement. :shhh: This time I made it in two resolutions, 1440x900 and 1200x900. I know the latter isn't a common resolution, but it was the only (easiest :hide: ) way to make a 4:3 ratio just by cropping the width.

Thanks, Ivo. I know they could be a lot better, but I'm just a beginner at this. :geek:

Anyhoo, here is a new wallpaper, this time only a simple blue-green setting with a lot of GeneRally. :bg: This time 2650x1600 and 1600x1200 resolutions.

As I got a new cellphone today (LG S310) I decided to create a wallpaper for it. I thought that I could make a wallpaper that I can use for my cellphone and for my computer. Now you can only use it for computers :D Hopefully it's not too bad :P
I made it in a resolution of 2560x1920 px (enough for every screen I think). If the aspect ratio isn't the same like yours, I suggest you to scale the image and then cut off some pixels at the left or at the bottom ;)
Please enjoy it, and leave some comments ;)

It would have been totally unneccessary to open a new topic, as this is exactly related to the topic.

It's said ''don't bump unless you have something important to say''. Creating new wallpaper definitely is that case.

Im thinking now: its pretty important if you want to say how good someones track is. Even altough it may be a bump-able track.

You can PM the author then - the confusion and clutter that bumping causes is a bigger nuisance than the importance of posting "good track" publically.

But back to topic, thank you.

Yeah but you should of pasted the R35 a bit lower so it doesn't look like it has ghosted through the wall and the moonlight bloom effect near the tree is very bad. It looks like Christmas baubles rather than bloom.
