Some un-immovable objects like traffic cones & barriers...
New walls - Armco wall and... Well, some others... (My vocabulary isn't that "great")
More cars in one grid - Make it 16!!!

Also, online ghost racing* is a must-have feature. I thought about ghost and not "real" since I don't think the guys doing the new game could handle a full operating online system.
Btw, yesterday I thought about something cool about surfaces for Gr 2.0. I already mentioned things like NEW surfaces like paveé, concrete or dirty tarmac or DOUBLE conditions like dry-wet tarmac and gravel. Here's the new one: double layer. Cars go through a dirt stage and, under the dirt, there's tarmac. What about online ghost racing and double layers??

*: racing without contact, that simple. Massive multiplayer racing games have that (TrackMania...).

Well, if we are going to have 16 cars, we need bigger tracks :D

But, let's say, we got 8 cars. So it wouldn't work on old tracks, right? Well...
There would be a solution. Here's the grid.

Code: Select all

[1]----            [1]---[2]
----[2] 
[3]----    OR      [3]---[4]

[5]----            [5]---[6]
----[6]
Now take the 2->3 vector, placed from [6], it would create 7'th starting position. Then get the 1->2 vector starting from [7] to create 8'th start.

If the starting positions are placed regularly and there's some space behind them, it could work! The game would do it every time there are more cars selected, but the track has only 6 starting positions (so it's from the old version).

Bad idea I think.
I'd more like if you have to "update" the tracks so that it has 8 starts. (and you can only select 6 at old tracks).
Cause that would be possibility for trackmakers to improve some other points at their tracks :shhh:

And what with tracks, which nobody will update (of guys, who left the community)? A system keeping compatibility would have to be made.

Or if you propose, that everybody can make similar grid modification on his own, I must say, that I have 3500 sorted tracks ATM (smaller/medium collection), I'll not have power to edit each of them.

Then you would just edit the tracks that you actually drive.

Paw's idea would work pretty well overall at most of the cases, but it would still cause flaws and on some of the tracks the cars would end up on the wrong side of the wall, on the grass, etc.
And how about some of the tracks that don't have the "normal" starting grid. The adding system might break the whole game if the updater screws up the starting positions so that they are out of the map or something.

Already have sounds for every car, just have to rename the sound you want to the name of the car it goes with.
Or something like that.

yep, if you have car named "Porsche 996" you just need to name sound-file for engine "Porsche 996.wav".

Anyways IMO it would be an horrible idea to replace the good old spherical tyres :D

At the moment it's not clear. Authors abandoned the project. But they may give us the source-code. There is a person which they were contacting, but at the moment there were no news. This person (James Burgess) was busy and we didn't hear from him for a couple of months. Let's hope that this situation will clarify in soon future!
