Official GeneRally feature request list

After 8 long years of waiting, all fans of the game got their our hopes of seeing new features up with new version of GeneRally. An idea about keeping a list of all requested features was introduced a long time ago, when the game was still updated by original developers. The list has since then been maintained by various people, until it had stopped getting updates. After RSC had died and our community moved to this forum, theruler dug the list back up and posted it here, but no one cared to actually update it (as of today, with 19 pages of requests from our forum members). So I decided to update the list (and keep it updated).


The list version number is currently 8.2, you can download it below (old list v7 is still available for download).

If anyone has got access to the code I just want to suggest a couple of new things:
· AI drivers slow down when they approach a turn (easier for trackmakers and their AI lines)
· Not-so-perfect AI drivers so they sometimes go too wide or too sharp
· A new style of driving so we have 2 chances: the original physics and something not so arcadey (so we have to hit the brakes a little bit)
· How about 8 or 10 drivers on track?? PLEASE

as much as i'd love to see some kind of improvement to this game... i just feel... it may very well go in the wrong direction...

the only thing i would want, which is possibly the most simplest of all, is just the file for the objects in the track editor, some quick colour changes to the objects, save them as different files, and hey presto new objects.

a counter while racing would be easy and a good improvement IMO. Also there should be a palchange in GeneRally itself and not to restart GR after changing palettes...

Ability to have "textures" for car models? What will happen if you put a .png file into a GR model as a texture?

And as BBA said, we need more objects whether some new variants of recurring objects (different shapes of houses, office blocks, etc.) and new ones (power plant, industrial building, gas station, power lines, etc.).

New special effects? Smoke effects sucks in original game... Just needed some kind smoke alpha... I wouldnt texture it, but I know that it should be possible, if someone would have programming skills. Yeah and a 256K or 16M palette :D and game compabtitle with 256K and 16M colours! Lmappers dream, isnt it?

and Carmakers would have to do grip/slowdown for 16 million different surfaces :eyes:

and a telegraph pole.
and a car shaped object.
and a concrete wall with a curved catch fencing.
and a scoring tower...

And armco wall (not fence and not concrete). And ... and ... I think that only solved bugs, no change of game speed during game, new objects and more polies for cars (but under 100 for sure) would be OK. Nothing more IMHO.

But anyway this is not purpose of this topic, so please go back to original topic (new game) and for these requests feel free to set a new topic with subject like ''Ideas and requests new version'' or something like that, guys. ;)

IMHO GR trackmaking would lose some of it's magic if making objects would be completely free. Limited objects (and pallette in lmap...) are one reason why it is so fascinating. Of course it would be nice to get more objects, but only 10-15 :scratch: Also resizing and changing color of objects would be great.

There are so many things I would like to request about GR, that I'd have to write the post for hours :D

Or you could create at least 5 different custom objects in one tracks with 30 vertexes and 40 polygons like in the careditor (but this one might be easy to bypass)

I forgot one of the most useful things: When you select the car from the list, should be like if the car file is for example "F1 2010 by Fechna" it there would not be all the cars in the list like:
Red bull
Renault
Ferrari

It would be like this:

|F1 2010 by Fechna|

...and when you click it:

|F1 2010 by Fechna| >|_____________________________________________|
| Red bull
| Renault
| Ferrari

Or , what I'd also like to have, that you can create folders in your cars folder (e.g 1 section "formula one" , 1 section "street cars" , 1 section "favourite cars" )

Yeah, thats a great idea. When you right click the name, appears a window with big picture of the car :coffee:
