Hello GR Community!
I'm very proud to present the 2012 Räbinä Awards :)
During the last year a lot of stuff happened, for example we survived the cataclysm which was sort of predicted by the Mayas.

Concerning GeneRally, there were also several important events: I think the most important news for all of us was the release of GeneRally v1.2, v1.2b and v1.2c. This great news came along with the 10th Anniversary of our little game GeneRally ;) .
I think that we have a great community at the moment. Even though the breakdown of Racesimcentral is still in our minds, we're powerful together :ghug: And the release of the newest GR along with presenting the plan of the Sequel brought new life to the community.
We're about to reach 4000 members and we're still growing. We show our great support to the game by contributing to it, each one in an own way: Some of us attract other :gr: players with competitions, some of us are involved in a track- or carmaking process, some of us program helpful tools which extend the potentials of the game, some of us just download the add-ons and have fun with it. But because we all have the same interest, we're strong together. :wiz:

This thread is here to reward those who put a lot of power into GeneRally, to honor those who need special recognition along with the thousands of others who keep GeneRally alive! :goal:

In the next few days, you'll see all the results of the votings for the 2012 awards. I hope that there will be some surprises in the results this year, like in the last year there we also had surprises. :yummy:

The categories of the Räbinä Awards are:

Wow, I'm the first. What a stage fright, Geez! :stretcher:
Anyways:

Well, that was the year 2012, the year of the dragon and the world's end. We have survived a cataclysm and the community stands still!

Oh boy, I can't help smiling as I remember those beautiful memories I've got, since the day I'm also a part of the forum :goodvibes: In 2007, when I wanted more than some PC-sharing GR-fights and some Hungarian compos (they were awesome too, ofc) I accidentally discovered more GR-fans on RSC. We really had a serious cataclysm since than and the world nearly ended as the old base has been collapsed, but we turned into much more healthier flesh than before from our ashes. And the community stands still! :hattip:

I didn't only discover fans like me and didn't only discover way better possibilities for playing but I did discover friends  I have friends now with creativity, talent and persistence. Inter alia they can build new cars with mastering extremely few triangles. I've couldn't ever built a normal one but I'm sure, Miskolc Racing Foundation could never organize competitions without car-makers, what is more: car-masters. The project of me and Resi is coming back soon, so it's a great honor for me to announce the following list and attach the .zip file with the name of the winner, after all.

Let's see... :goal:
Nominees for CarMaker of the Year 2012:

Brix, Doorslammer, Genetleman, Haruna, Krisu, Lukeno94, Maciej1, Marcinho, MASA, XYY.

The TrackMaker Räbinä Award is probably like the Best Movie award in the Oscars.
Lots of people keep the Tracks Section of the Forum bursting daily with new stuff.
It would be fair to say that Track Making is the engine of the GR community.
Fantastic Track Makers share incredible creations, motivating amateurs & rookies to get in to it and share their creativity with the community as well.
Over the years we've been racing on tracks that keep getting better & better.
Several authors have taken track making to the extreme.

A funny thing is that despite the fact that we understand and comprehend with the Game Restrictions to 512x512 (and 40 polys as well), we’ll always want to bring “Real Life” in to our sport.
Call it obsession? :meditate: A try to put an elephant in a can? I couldn’t say.
But when it comes to [rwl] [cir] there certainly is a guy among us who delivers!
If you haven’t guessed already, you’re probably new to this Forum! :D

Wow, I thought I wouldn't get any votes this year. Danke schön, XYY, for the vote :goodvibes:

Congrats for the winners so far!

And little commercial speech: my new avatar might be a piece of landmap of a new track, or maybe I got the image from the outer space to my computer and was told to use it as my avatar, so that you all will get hypnotised and they (yes, they) can take over the control of GRIF, or maybe you won't know, or maybe you will know, or maybe you won't know what you will know... :alien:

Now people have posted something other than awards here, I'd like to say thank you to the 7 people who voted for me, I genuinely wasn't expecting to win. No surprises about the trackmaker award, but the really interesting one for me is the people whom won the Competition Organizer award - congratulations to all of you! :)

My advert is simple, to show a small preview of what I'll be releasing next: the City & Eco Cars pack.

I must say thank you to the people who voted for me in compo organizer, even though I didn't win, I sincerely didn't expect to get any votes, especially after the IGRT mess. Congrats to all the winners in the categories so far, the victories are well deserved :bg:

I would like to thank everyone who has kindly put an advert into the show, it's wonderful to see such creativity thrive in such a prosperous community. It also makes it easier for the administrators to pay my appearance fee.

GeneRally. The only word I know with two capitals. I remember the release of the latest version and recall the great leader Choo Choo the ex-admin talking about our newly found multiculturism. His exact words, "This game is a load of Baltics." At least, that's what I hope he said, otherwise I have insulted quite a load of Scandinavians...

Anyway, rookies! I remember the days when I was one of those previously mentioned people what I just said. It was all the way back in 20something or other, my first exploits being... that stuff. You know, with the triangles and whatnot. Alright, so I might not remember everything, but... good times they were indeed. I think.

So what would my top tips for being a rookie be? I... oh, hang on a minute, can't let the winner hear this, he's no longer one of the noobies. If every nominee could cover his ears for a moment or two, I'll just pass this onto the deserving folks who need a hand. OK? Good. Right, rookie tips!

1.) This is very important, so do take a note of this one. Buy a computational device. I can't stress that enough.

2.) Never make a green car. They just remind people of mucus. And mould. Don't forget mould.

3.) If you ever get asked to present an award in your future career, kindly turn it done and suggest Davo. He needs the money more.

With those in mind, I wish everyone who wants to give stuff a go the best. Now the nominees can take their hands off their ears, but keep them on standby. A booking error meant we got Rebecca Black singing at the halftime interval.

So, without further delays and diatribes, I present to you the lucky lucky people who could actually afford a dinner suit tonight. It's like some sort of Gangnam Style convention out there really. Anyway, my dinner is getting cold and my sake is being stolen by Masa, so here are the nominees...
Nominees for Rookie of the Year 2012:

bruno_arnason, Clutch, Eroture, FRUKIScze, kikwik, marinator, McBidouille, puttz, Spacethingy, Von Mantov, YoNnie111.

It's been nearly 6 years since I've joined the small, but always alive and friendly GeneRally community. We've had members and masters come and go, but one variable stays constant in this community; whether you're a master creator from eons past or a rookie who just downloaded the game as I'm typing this, there is always someone willing to offer a helpful hint.

Our nominees (excluding myself, of course) represent people who fit the mold of offering that level of help down to even the smallest and most minute of details. If you ever need help improving, these are your go-to guys.

It's a shame that I'll be the maid here, these sort of party occasions always turn out to be a mess of extravagant proportions.

Enough digressing though, I'm here to present an award, not bore you to death with fancy phrases that you'll probably forget in the next five seconds.
Nominees for Commentator of the Year 2012:

Today, it's an honour for me to be present again in the Räbinä Awards Ceremony and to give the trophy to the best racer.
He's the oldest driver of Generally ever present among us and the game would not be the same without him.
It's also his second Racer Trophy after his first consecration in 2011.
For the third time in a row, the year champion won two consecutive trophies (the others were Alexwolf79 and Alx.it).

Last year the task was no so easy because he has a very tough opponent named Akouk, but unfortunately for him he lost the leadership at the beginning of the summer and never managed to catch his rival.
Finally the Finnish driver won the year ranking with about 400pts ahead.

And the Golden Räbinäs go to...

Obviously I hope to see you all next year for a new Ceremony :bg:

Before my speech, I would like to use out the opportunity to say thank you those, who think that my competitions were worthy enough for this award. Thank you, really. I just can't say anything else now... :roses: But then, show must still go on, it's time to present today the remaining awards!

Image

I guess you remember, that in each Räbinä Awards gala, the committee decides on giving two honorary awards: one for a person, who has done an outstanding performance in the actual year, and the other one for at that time inactive GeneRally player, whose work still influences our everyday life on GR International Forum.

And the Golden Räbinäs go to...

Our selection for this year was motivated by the person, who has released in his carreer an unbelievable amount of 62 reallife tracks, 30 other circuits and two trackpacks, which were making him a trackmaster. But our selection was not only motivated by this, as he's managing the Joint Effort project on GRIF since June 2010, but he's taken recently over Joint Effort Amateur, too. If it wouldn't be enough, he's keeping the available reallife track's list, G-Tracks up to date. Out of that, his work in building the community is also important to mention, that is to be shown in the F1 prediction games, but also at his fancy and valuable comments in almost every discipline.

All in all, congratulations to you, and keep this marvellous work going!

There was a speech mistake, I've thought, that Bouncebackability was leading Joint Effort Rally, which is of course not true. Apologies for this... :/

:wow:

Thank you very much for the Honorary award! Was not expecting it whatsoever and I feel really... honoured :D

I enjoy working on the JE projects, especially now the JEA, which i'm glad to see such interest again, as I learnt so much in my trackmaking from this project looking at my fellow trackmakers techniques. And while I know I don't update the gtracks as often as I perhaps should, I intend to continue doing this while its quiet at work to make it more frequent :shhh:

The Prediction game is great fun and I will be asking about feeedback for the 2013 version in the next week or so! :yummy:

Many thanks!!!

Also, congratulations to all the other winners of each of the categories :bg:

Bouncebackability! :yipee:

Edit: Dan is right, I don't run the rally project :D

I'm proud to present the second of Committee's Honorary Awards. Today we shall remember very special person. In my opinion there were few GR members who had so much influence on our little community. In his own special way. I'm talking about the best competition organizer ever. Do you remeber F1-Cup? Did you ever take part in GeneRally Rookie Championship? Did you know who was the hoster of 5 24h du Mans races? And many-many-many other beautiful well-organized championship. He pushed forward login system. I think of him as the best example of competition organizer. And I hope he'll someday will make another season for us. Of any series.

I know much of you wish I would contribute more actively to this game. The least I can do is present to you all the final award for this year's gala.

A hard lesson I have learnt in gaming and the internet as I was growing up is that the power of community is just as important to making or breaking a game as anything going on within the games themselves. I have witnessed so many games fall apart because the attention to community just wasn't there. I don't think I would've kept returning to a game as inconspicuous as GeneRally ten years later if not for the unparralelled dedication and contributions of this community.

We welcome newbie track and carmakers with whatever advice we can to guide them along their way. We provide them room to participate with events like Joint Effort Amateur Track Project and Generally Rookie Championship. We met the demand to separate excellent contributions from the rest by opening Track of the Month. We tirelessly archive works dating back to the beginning of the game's history, while trying to regain contact with missing authors to ask for their permissions, so that future racers may experience GeneRally history. Every instance outlined here is an opportunity that any other community would have just got horribly wrong.

The existence of the Community Member Award shows to me that you all already appreciate what community does, but I hope this isn't forgotten, as we roll into the future and the arival of GeneRally 2 presents us with new challenges. Dedicating your time to keeping a community vital is an exceptional feat, so whoever the award goes to deserves all the congratulations they can get. But regardless, everyone nominated should be very proud of themselves.
Nominees for Community Member of the Year 2012:

Alonso, Buka, Bouncebackability, Crono, Garbre, GeorgM, Glen, James Burgess, jo.sk, LongBow, Otto Wilson, Trigger Happy.
