[cir] Aircraft Carrier

Post by zsoltbartok »

A new track is here!
Have you ever wondered what racing would be like on the deck of a huge aircraft carrier?
Well, I have!
And since in the world of GeneRally nothing is impossible, here is the track:

Aircraft Carrier!

Go fast, try not to slide off the deck and please do not crash into the F-35s, they cost a fortune! Have fun! ;)
And some details:
As you can see, it is not real water but landmap/pixel sea. The reason I didn't use hmap plus water is mainly the detailed control tower. Real water looks better, its deeper blue, but the ship is more realistic this way.
The track itself is narrow a bit, but you know, there are limitations when you try to drive on a ship.
The length of the ship might be just perfect for a simple, straight drag style layout. Feel free to make it if you miss it! Permission granted!
Even if the tower is only a bunch of pixels, it may hurt to crash into it! :)

Finally, I would have been unable to finish the track without:
Garbre's tutorials, Paint, Gimp, Google pics
Thanks a lot! :)

OMG  Very good track. Its not perfect
-Water thing ;)
- You don't fall down, so offroad cars can also use this
- Boat ( :gr: object) looks silly somehow
But 4,5 anyway. And you'll get ToM nomination :bg:

Now that is truly a piece of art right there, and it even seems to be drivable at the same time. I have to say that this is the first track in a loooong time where the lmap art actually is there for a reason. Obviously there are the flaws of just having a flat land with everything drawn on it, but seriously, you don't drive your Land Rover in a public park even if it could do it. So why would you drive on the (imaginary) water just because the GR offroader can do it...
The water looks pretty cool, even as I don't quite get the idea of why tarmac has been used as a color there at points. If it's to simulate the shallowness of the sea, I'm quite sure the aircraft carrier wouldn't be there. Or if it was, it would be... well... stuck.

But still, it is a very good piece of art. Good job.

AWESOME!!
It's an ARTISTIC track!!

This aircraft carrier is USS Theodore Roosevelt, CVN-71.
Indeed that's painted as the ship.

5/5! :bg: Great job!

:iagree:
USS CVN-71 (or T.Roosevelt) was suitable, IMHO.
When if its name was used, you'd be able to make USS series..

Anyway, I love this track!

Well, my 100th post is a huge thank you for your comments, guys! :hattip: I am very happy that you like the track, especially because it took me ages to finish it!

The reason you can see tarmac in the water is to make it a bit darker, as water can be seen in pics, one side of the small waves are dark blue. So this is not because of the shallow water but instead to feel the darkness of depth a bit. Still, it's much lighter than :gr: water.
Yes, you can slide off the deck, and it could have been prevented by using fences or walls placed around the edge the deck - but they ruined the perspective...

Stunning. The gameplay is very good (but not perfect - some sunk tyres are not easy to recognize on the board with white lines) and it looks amazing! I can promise you vote in ToM (again). :bg:

Bumpy aircraft carrier, hmm

Nice painting, not much for racing though.

Thanks again boys above, you are really nice! :)
I agree that this is probably not the best classic racetrack. It is probably more like an experiment, not only landmap-wise but also how to place a relatively good racing line on the narrow deck, to use up the space well and be decent in the same time. This was haunting me for a long time... Now I do like this line, I like to drive on it and I hope you too!

I'm not the kind of person who posts comments on a track just because it's beautiful and well done, because I appreciate almost any type of work in GeneRally. But now, this is from another world, really amazing... :bg:
