[cir] My first track and submission: QuriUS ver 1.1

Post by Zaximillian »

Version 1.1, Edited 18AUG2010

This is my very first submission, a small circuit track. I placed several restrictions on myself so I was forced to learn some beginner lessons.

* The track had to fit a smaller world size so I could see the cars better.
* At least one fairly high banked turn so I could learn how to do that.
* Two different track surfaces that worked together.
* Custom lines on the track and custom berms.
* A little bit of story and history.

Here's the track's story, complete with a fictional company, racing series, and sponsor:

Quri manufactures aftermarket aero parts for sport cars. This is their United States test track. Quri also employs several drivers in a rookie level, developmental league: the Quri Brown Strip Racing Series. This track is also used twice during that series.

"The horizon is out there. Be QuriUS."

As for the "Brown Strip" part, that has to do with the drivers I'm creating also, and Quri's stable of drivers will be released soon. Thanks in advance for all the help I'll get to make this little track better.

Latest edits:
* All track marks reduced in size toward 1px. (suggested by Trigger Happy, Quklis)
* Pits opened and respaced. CPU McTurbo cars should be able to pit there now. (suggested by Trigger Happy and zegarek)
* Starting bay numerals placed inside the bays.
* Hill smoothed and QuriUS sign placed.

Superb.

Just very small detail: all lines in width 2px except grid. I recommend to keep one style for all details in this point - grid in 2px too. ;)

Otherwise it's excelent first track and I very like the layout. :bg:

I like it a lot. For a first track there's a lot of effort put in to that.

Good work :bg:

Lessons learned during editing:

* It's best to create a track with an odd numbered pixel width instead of an even one that I used.
* Glad I remembered how to anti-alias by hand. Looking at a curve in multiple sizes can pick out rogue pixels created by various curve algorithms.
* Concrete walls should be overlapped a little bit to avoid gaps. TE does not show those gaps accurately, even if it seems that the walls are placed perfectly.
* It's best to test your track with a wide range of computer AI cars and skill levels.

Thanks for the advice, guys; I'm learning every day. :hattip: .

I noticed a small problem during playing. In front and behind first and last pit crew is very few tarmac. Maybe only 5 crews fit there better.

Thank you! I'm satisfied with this track, and if someone can decide on where to put some soft wall barriers on the straights for an alternate layout, I'd be grateful.

Meanwhile, I'm moving on to the second Brown Strip Racing Series track: dirtBall.

Thanks for the advice, insight, and most of all, the encouragement, guys!

That looks damn good! :D
Just wondering, how it can be a street track, it looks more like a circuit. The roads lead nowhere else than this track, at normal day, a guy drives that road and it leads to nothing.

Some racing circuits have/had similar middle line like normal roads, e.g. Paul Ricard before turning it into testing facility.
