Everyone thought the French Grand Prix would be a permanent fixture on the Formula One calendar. The country that hosted the first ever Grand Prix, home of the FIA, motorsport's governing body, and host to the world-famous 24 Heures du Mans endurance race. The French automobile industry was one expected to thrive forever.
Then in 2007, Bernie Ecclestone, the man in charge of FOM, Formula One Management, announced that the French Grand Prix that year would be the last at it's current home, Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in rural France. So the search began for a new site for the oldest race in the world. Among the rumours were an upgraded Paul Ricard, a new circuit outside Paris, or a street race around the capital. But none of these would be ready in time for the 2008 race.
It was then announced that Magny-Cours had agreed a deal with Ecclestone to host the event for one more year, while the search for a new venue continued. Of all the prospective sites, it was the circuit planned for Seine Valley in between Flins and Les-Mureaux in the Yvelines region that was chosen. But it would not be ready until at least 2010.
So 2009 passed without a race in France, the first time in the history of the championship that this had ever happened. In December 2009 though, after it was obvious that the new circuit was not going to be ready in time, despite the rest of the industrial development at the site well underway, the plans for a new French F1 track were scrapped. It appeared to be the beginning of the end of the French automobile industry, with just Renault and Citroen still under French ownership.
Fast forward to 9 December 2012... The 2013 FIA Formula One World Championship calendar is finalised. And there, Sunday 16th June 2013, the French Grand Prix. This was totally unexpected, as nothing had been mentioned even about plans to bring the race back to France, but there it was. At a new circuit at the same Flins-Les-Mureaux site as previously intended.
Fast forward to 16th June 2013...The French Grand Prix had been saved. After 5 long years, Formula One was back in France at the Circuit de Yvelines Flins-Les-Mureaux. Nobody knew who saved the race or how, but they didn't care. This was reality. This was the saviour of French motorsport...

Great track!
A mix of Magny-Cours and Le Mans
The layout is very good, nice to drive, what means that for sure wasn't Hermann Tilke who designed it
Good Job

Nope, designed by yours truly, ME!!
And yes, the last 3 corners are influenced by Magny-Cours then my version of the Mulsanne Straight at the bottom

Great-looking track... the FIA could do much worse than following you... except of course it's going to be another stupid, boring street circuit...
I like short, simple signatures!

Hah, they could at least have used Gran Turismo's layout. It's way better than that crappy layout.A1 Aaron wrote:Thanks for that bduddy, maybe i should have a word with Hermann Tilke but yeah, Bernie's got a thing about street circuits atm, look at Rome. Looks like the stupidest layout ever!!!
