[cir] [roa] Brunel Park

Post by James »

So, after spending so much time working with Markku on developing GR lately... I decided it was about time I worked on a track again (having not released one in about 6 years). This is the result of about 10 hours work, with testing/feedback from Tuomo and Ivo (also, a hat-tip to Garbre for his land-map flowers and railway line) - I can't promise it's up to modern track-making standards, but I'd say it's definitely my best track to date. Any and all constructive comments are appreciated :) Of course, the track is fictional - and I'm not really one for 'back-stories' - so I'll get straight to the files!

This track was designed in a 16:9 resolution but the screenshot was taken at a 4:3 resolution (hopefully highlighting how both will be suitable resolutions for gameplay).

Except Lombon was released last month. ;)

As I already said to you, very good comeback track, James. :bg:

Really...there is only one thing I dislike about the track

And it's the kerb in the middle at the bottom... that slight indent in the centre of it just looks messy... I know it's possibly the smallest part of the track, but now I've noticed it... :shake3:

But apart from that... it's not a bad comeback at all

I don't really see what you mean... perhaps I've missed it too? :P If you can point it out, and it bugs me sufficiently, I'll re-work the kerb a bit :bsmile:

Yes, I gathered that... :P Can you be a little more specific? Do you mean the slight variations in the 2nd and 3rd white sections from the left?

It's the second white from the left... and then the following... 2 stripes the most... there just seems a unnecessary blip in the line :hide:

... Best discussion ever this

I gotta say, noone can deny it that you are an experienced trackmaker and a trackmaster if all this work took you only 10 hours! I mean, nearly every cliche that we can find in trackmaking has been integrated into this one project. The track has a car park, a lake, stands, rails, run-offs, tillages, woods and neighbourhood. You even had time to do a landmap tunnel! But, you know what this track is lacking. Cliffs! Although I think this fast paced work is perceptable in the track. But who said great works needs a lot of time! Look at how God created the world in only seven days. Great work but a little bit tight for me. Challenging track with or without opponents! Has a great layout(object placement is a bit poor on some places, though) and it's perfectly acceptable for a comeback! Great work! :bg:

:star: 4.5/5 :star:(Some poorly designed buildings, wrong use of space)

Good track James :)

10 hours is quite a lot, I tend to get bored at tracks when I spent more than 3 hours onto the track...

very good track James: it is so addictive!
I will give you my personnal feeling around some details, but I understand that you prefer your point of view:
- I feel that the kerbs at the beginning of the pit stop are a little bit too large
- the railway line seems to be a little bit too large too
Perhaps I am too closed to my screen :)

Anyway, I like it a lot

Hmm, when I can be bothered... I'll re-do that kerb :bg:

Where in particular? I'm aware the large office block isn't quite right... but I spent quite a while on that and eventually gave up :P

It looks like that, yes - but if you manage to get a car up there (good luck :P ), you'll see it is sized quite well... it's barely bigger than the car (and trains are, obviously, usually bigger than cars)!

I think that one is okay as it is, but the building next to it could have been placed a bit further from the road. The trees are blocking the view so we can't see nothing but its top. But the trees are okay there because I like how the spectators are standing behind the barrier in the shadow. I mostly think about the stands in the middle and the booths in the pitlane. They are too simple for that place I think.
