Gravel, tarmac, snow. Whatever the surface, you'll find it here.

[cir] [ovl] [tpk] Abdo Speedway

Post by Alex »

This track has taken me about a week to make so i hope you like it :).

In October 1996 an Oval track with an infield started being built in an open field in Hull. It took them until June 7 1997 to build, when the track was opened for the first time. At first it only attracted a few people wanting a track day with their riced up 80's escorts and astras but it has slowly grown by 2011 to accomodate a GT Lights event with thousands of people watching. The track is aimed at 16 -30 year olds wanting to start their racing career. The track contains 5 layouts: An oval, a Short (micro) layout, an 8 shape, a National circuit and an Infield circuit.

Additional notes:
The name comes from my second name: Abdo.
The dates at the beginning of this story are my birthdate (7/6/97) and my egg to fetus stage (approx. October '96)
The track has a huge circular building which has every facility you can imagine: Toilets, restaurants and even Scalextric races are held in there.
The flower pattern on the bottom left of the track is made to look like a GR Formula car.
The beta versions' parked cars were made from Booths and Concrete posts but i changed them to Boats because they look better aesphetically.
This is possibly my best track yet :D

I hope you like this .

I'll just point out some of the things I'm not too keen on:

The sand square with the... thing in it looks odd and out of place? I just think that space could have been used more appropriately and fitted to the track.

The kerbs don't look too good either, from my perspective... just the red spaced kerbs on the infield of a oval... seems strange to me.

Also the safe pits, I'm no fan of :shake:

And finally, the tracks themselves, I found pretty much all the infield tracks a tad too narrow for my liking, and slightly too easy to kill all the spectators, it might justbe my bad driving though :P

And the oval could perhaps have had tarmac up on the top turny... bit... like the bottom one.

I know it sounds like I have just ranted about tha track, but it's all constructive I hope

You have improved, and the small track was fun, the banking is good, and the 8 layout was a good idea.

I just think some small improvements generally could boost it a bit

Keep up the good work dude :trampo:

Thanks. :-) The kerbs weren't really meant to be there and the short layout was meant to be driven with low powered karts and bicycles and stuff. The mini circuit in a square of sand was a junior kart track for little kids. Safepits.... meh. And by tarmac on the top corner, do you mean the panelling effect i've used?

And 12 downloads? Thanks guys! :-)

EDIT: 666th post  :d&a: :razzbang:

the tarmac at the top i reckon is referring to the fact that the outside of the tarmac does not reach the concrete wall, leaving that grass gap. whereas at the bottom, the tarmac actually goes the other side of the concrete wall. it would look better of the tarmac ran in line with the wall all the way around ;)

This is what I referring to indeed :D

It just looks odd, if they were both tarmac... or both grass it be ok :P
