[roa] [cir] Sunrocks

Post by DrAanik »

Hello!

It's my newest track :cflag: Sunrocks :cflag:

Image

Actually there are 2 tracks: Sunrocks_A and Sunrocks_B (driving clockwise and inversely).
I wonder which is more interesting.

And I'm waiting for your comments.

My jaw literally fell straight off my face when I saw this track! Outstanding landmap, hmap and layout! Only thing is, for me, it would be better without kerbs.

This is indeed great track :wiz: Hmap is very hard to drive and landscape is just so amazing, that I stopped and looked at it. As you know, details make impression and that house in top-right with people near it and flowers - awesome. Small stream that flow through the whole map - awesome as well as lake in top of it. Driving feelings also are awesome.
But: bottom of map looks a bit empty and you should keep that style without so many stones, I think, as they just dominate the whole turn! :shake:
In my scale - 9 out of 10. Almost perfect.
I hope that we won't have to wait too long for your next track. ;)

At the opposite of people here, I find the LMAP not so great... The oil isn't looking great IMO. But the layout and HMAP is indeed very good :) Maybe pits could be reworked...

I agree, there is too much oil for my taste, but Hmap is really interesting :bg: Just I´m wondering what kind of magic you´ve used to make that Lmap :D some gimp I guess :hiya:

Oil? Where's your imagination! It may be shadow, may be dust from nearby factory...

I know it´s meant to be something like that but it just looks quite bad for me, because there is too much of it and at some places where are hmap bumps it looks strange and maybe artificial ;)

Whatever the oil is meant to be, it just looks ugly. Other than that the lmap is great... at least if it had some objects on it. Also the POV could be better.

Even if I don't like its looks at all, it's very nice to drive on. for that ;)

Sorry. :? I just don't know English proverb about it. Let's say that "You should't dispute about tastes".

In fact, according to wikipedia, the real english translation is "there's no accounting for taste", BUT, acually, on THIS page, you can see clearly something very near to what you wrote :flip:

I like this track! Landscape and Hmap are really cool. But the shadow (oil) of cliffs (Landscape's) has one problem. Those shadows reflect light a little. But that's the problem of the game, it isn't the problem of your BMP paint.

Anyway, Great track, IMO.

I don't think that this is actually a great track to drive on. But it looks AMAZING. :champa:
This shows the potential that still lies in tracks to come... - this is the future of trackmaking.
It started with painting buildings, now we have a photorealistic environment.

:wow:

What can I say that's not already been said?
I agree with Mathee that this is (hopefully) the future to come in GR-trackmakung!
Although it's not my favorite track to race, the LMap is simply incredible photorealistic, I've never ever thought this kind of graphics could ever been made.
Thät's what I love about the limitations of the game/editor:
There's always someone who stretches its possabillities a bit further, be it cars, nifty little programs, painted houses, or indeed these fantastic realistic shadows.

THANKS! :bg: :bg: :bg: :bg: :bg:

Great track, especially the anticlockwise is very good mix of curves and uphills/downhills/different bankings. Some of the shadows are really too strong, but it's great to see a person experimenting (pity that we don't have Bugattino's gimp tutorial. :(). :bg:

Try and rotate this track in TrackViewer! Looks good from every angle! :bg:

Big thanks to all for your comments once more! :)

In the beginning it was just my experiment with the small programm NeoGeo2. Rich Nagel even in 2004 recommended on :rsc: to try it and gave the link to download. Maybe somebody already made such realistic tracks.

This picture was produced by NeoGeo2:

Image

Then I used Photoshop (not GIMP ;) ) to turn colors into 13 GR colors, then TE, SnakeDitor and GRHMEdit - and you see the result.
(Btw, I have Bugattino's gimp tutorial saved on my computer).

On the picture from NeoGeo2 you can see beautiful shadows. But GR has only 13 colors and unfortunately only black color (oil) can replace all nuances by conversion. :( Lmap will be not so realistic without deep shadows of bright sunshine.
Those reflected lights in dark places are not so big problem (for me). They looks like the morning fog (in my imagination  ).

Big thanks for all your tips - in few days I'll rework this track.

It should be look like this (the first draft of new version):
