[roa] Moncour - fast and technical UPDATED

Post by boomwagon »

Edit:Following the feedback (much appreciated) I've improved the road texture, tweaked object placement and made it easier to understand the layout quickly.

A fast and technical track based on European landscapes. Lots of long stretches with a couple of corners that need a little practice to perfect. Plus race along the railway line. Not alongside, but along it!

I enjoyed designing it, hope you enjoy racing on it!

A kind of confusing layout actually, since you have to drive on railway lines, but I had fun with it. :drive: Just the "autobahn" looks more like a Bundesstraße rather than a motorway. :P

Who doesn't want to drive on a railway line though?
and couldn't make the Autobahn three lanes as the GR bridge crossing it is a bit too small as is.

Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the comment.

Wouter, is there any reason whatsoever to make that allegation? Either you provide evidence for your question, or you retract it ASAP.

Looks good, but you should make better walls. Try snakeditor ;)

does snake editor let you make your own objects? Or do you mean it lets you align things accurately?

If you're referring to alignment, then for these kind of tracks [roa], I prefer walls that don't look too perfect. I design the landscape as if it were real, and then make the track accommodate the landscape rather than move things to get smoother turns or walls.
So I'd rather a hay bale wall bulged to go round a lamp-post, than move the lamp-post for example.

For me, it feels a lot more natural that way

thanks for commenting!

great to hear other people's opinions

+ Fun layout; as you say, who the heck wouldn't wanna race on a railway track?! :D
+ Lovely railway texture.

- Kind of confusing layout, but easy to grasp once the AI have lead you round a few times.
- Lines down the middle of the road are made of the ice texture, and so look wrong and a bit blotchy.

3.5/5

thanks for the feedback.
The road lines are all part of the texture from photoshop, so they're not actually ice. I think they look a little blotchy as they're slightly narrower than the motorway lines (intentional), but perhaps they end up being between 1 and 2 pixels and the conversion to 4bit is making them blurred.

Will try and crisp them up a bit, and perhaps add a few more barriers to guide people on their first couple of laps.

Well sorry, i thought the lines on the road were kind of messy, just like some of the objects, that the textures looked far too good. I thought i'd ask.

The track looks very good by the way.

The option would be rather to make the road lines overall narrower, closer to width of GR car to keep a scale in this direction (so the railway, in reality they are about as wide as car's 'wheelbase' width, so there could be room for railways in both directions maybe), anyway it looks good now as it is overall - the roads and highway proportion etc. :bg:
