Track tags reform

Gravel, tarmac, snow. Whatever the surface, you'll find it here.

GrXS (+90% tarmac tracks shorter than 400)
GrM (+90% tarmac tracks between 400-750)
GrXL (+90% tarmac tracks over 750)
OVL (oval courses of ALL kinds)
ROV (courses that includes and oval section)
STR (tracks that include public streets)
ROA (tracks that include public roads)
OFF (tracks with dirt/mud/grass/snow/sand sections)
STU (tracks with crazy elevations, flat crossovers and so)

RWL (tracks that exist but not necessarily "official" tracks)
STG (point-2-point courses)
TPK (groups of tracks in the same zip)

EXAMPLE:
Lowe's motor speedway by MiltonDuPont
TPK - RWL - OVL - ROV

GrXS, GrM and GrXL are only for PURE tarmac road courses. An "OFF" track cannot be also "GrM".
i don't think the whole extra small, medium and extra large is all the useful...

same with ROV

...what does that even standfor.... road-oval?... :shake:

I don't see much point in dividing tracks by their length.. Also roval is quite pointless and you're excluding [oth] nor [mic].

And why XS and XL? S and L would do just the same

My suggestions:

Code: Select all

[cir] Circuit
[stc] Street circuit
[roa] Road circuit
[ovl] Oval
[stu] Stunts
[rax] RallyCross circuit (mixed surface, tarmac + other)
[ofr] Off-road circuit (mixed surface, no tarmac)
[stg] Rally stage
[kar] Kart circuit
[mic] Below 100 WS.
[oth] Any track that doesn't come into these categories

[rwl] Real world
[tpk] Trackpack
[evo] Evolution pack
[gam] Recreation of a track from another game (fictional track)
And with [rwl], Kart tracks can be included.

about kart tracks, it depends if BBA will want to add them into G-Tracks too. And we still can have fictional kart track. How you want to call them? cir+oth?

We don't need so much reduction or almost everything out top top 5 most used tags will be called oth soon. Stunts are as rare as karts, or do you want to delete this tag too?

 this is all going confusing again

i wouldnt personally recognise a Kart track as a RWL track suitable for GTracks, as i think we would all agree, gtracks is a list of circuits that are raced on by full size cars/bikes, and ok, a kart track is wide enough (particularly in GR as the trackwidth is probably the same as normal anyway) but they are typically dedicated to go karts, although i could just ignore a Kart track with a RWL tag  but then why shouldnt someone who makes a track based on the roads around their house be rwl, so therefore i think the kart tag should stay.

and i would get rid of Water :bath:

adding tags such as [gam], [rov] (which i guess is an oval with a road course, such as Daytona) or arranging tracks by WS are kinda removing some of the point in clarifying the tags we use. altho im a fan of [evo].

and
Ivo Porc wrote:and why I don't like the ral tag, because in this case of ADAC rallye it would be rallye, but cannot use ral tag. Confusion is born again.
So because of it I proposed the drt tag instead of ral for the cases similar to Quklis' ral and stg for all stages no matter of kind surface.
pretty much what ive been saying too, just using the letters ral instead of drt :bg:

Code: Select all

Basic Tags:
[cir] Circuit
[stc] Street circuit
[roa] Road circuit
[ovl] Oval
[stu] Stunts
[ral] any off road racing (mixed surface, tarmac rally stage, tarmac + other, gravel etc etc)
[kar] Kart circuit (Go-Kart style wether it be fictional or real)
[mic] Below 100 WS.
[oth] Any track that doesn't come into these categories

additional tags:
[rwl] Real world
[stg] Rally stage
[tpk] Trackpack
[evo] Evolution pack
so it would be
[ral][stg] rally germany
[ral][stg] rally bohemia
[ral] Ededee
[ral] e.g. Croft Rallycross track

at the end of the day, it doesnt matter what the actual tags are as long as theyre understandable...

I like this list of tags  I would go for it....but I would keep the [wat] tag....I personally find these kind of tracks very interesting (I remember one track when you were racing with submarines :hiya: ) and even if now there isn't any recently made, there could be a boom of such tracks in future (like now we have many [ral] but in the past very few).

i'm with BBA too

as we would just class water as other, most likely the word 'water' would be in the title or included in the thread numerous times so finding a water track wouldn't be that hard :hiya:

I like that classification, it's very simple and straightforward, kind of the main point why we're doing this in the first place. But I would change 2 things here:

First: I would keep the [wat] tag. I honestly don't understand what all the fuss about the [wat] tag really is. Unlike the discussion about dirt/rally/offroad and what was such, [wat] is pretty straightforward and not confusing at all. It doesn't "fight" with any other tags, so you cannot confuse it with the rest of the tags, like you could with the [ral] and [rax] (and god forbid) any other [ofr] or anything like that. I personally have made a water track (poor attempt, I admit it, but nevertheless) and will maybe make more in the future. [/forgets his main point in the process]

I guess what I was trying to say is that there is no harm done if there is one more (actually not more, we've had it up to now) track tag on the list. No one is going to be confused about it, and the purpose of this debate isn't shortening the list IMO, it's about making it more understandable. The [wat] tag doesn't counter that.

Second: I would remove the [stg] tag. I don't believe there is need for such tag. It would just be confusing people, much like the [ral] and [rax] were up to now. I see it this way - if a track is a rally it's a rally, be it a point-to-point, circular, loopstage, tarmac, offroad.. There are many possibilities, and to serve justice, there would need to be tags for all that to further classify rally tracks properly. But that would just be redundant and contradictory to what this discussion is all about. Remember, we still have keywords we can (must?) use to describe tracks, and "stage" can be put there.

Please consider my propositions and I hope I was clear enough. :sweatdrop:

ok, keep the [wat] tag then :D

but the reason i would include the [stg] tag is from a personal experience, not long after i found GR, i wanted some stage rallys from RSC and had to search though all the [ral] topics to find some, so it would have helped me, so thats kinda the reason why i think it should be included as maybe someone else may come along wanting the same thing. and ok we have keywords, but they arent compulsory like tags... :2c:

and also the fact that stages are 1 lap races, whereas all the other versions can be as many laps as you would like, and i think that is the differing factor between what we have at the moment and what we need to clarify...

I'm for the BBA's proposal with adding wat and keeping stg (I wanted to search them several times too and it was really a problem).

I think that if anybody want to make water tracks for boats, they could actually just use the [oth] tag to post them... Seriously, the last [wat] I remember was like 3 years ago  :ugeek:

Well I haven't searched for any stages before, but if you have, then I suppose other people might too. So lets keep the [stg] tag then. And at a second thought, as an additional tag it really doesn't confuse as much as ral and rax did before..

But I'm still for keeping the wat, for the beforementioned reasons. :2c:

Indeed - there have been only a handful of [wat] tracks during the whole history of GR. I wouldn't mind seeing it go. [oth] is a good tag for tracks like those.

Well, we have seen space tracks, airport tracks, soccer fields, sumo wrestling and slalom ski tracks previously, for example, and there are still more special tracks in existence so [oth] would be needed anyway.

Should they be 3 letters long?
What about: Same as now but
[ral] from A to B
[ralO] means that it's circuit?
And the story was whatever was the song what it was

That would just get even more confusing. If you looked just for stages but you got circuits come up... it wouldn't work.

good point, i had forgot about the space tracks...

...and now i remember some of the other total genres of generally that doesn't include racing, shame there is not more of those.

For those who propose both [ral] and [stg]: ( [ral] for offroad tracks)
What would be a tarmac stage? [ral] [stg] ? but [ral] means offroad, and tarmac is not offroad

And for proposal of Bouncebackabilty we have examples:
Bouncebackability wrote:

[oth] Any track that doesn't come into these categories

so it would be
[ral][stg] rally germany
[ral][stg] rally bohemia
[ral] Ededee
[ral] e.g. Croft Rallycross track
Because Quklis' propsal IMHO creates confusion back - it makes situation, when something called rallye (e.g. Rallye Germany - Pack of year 2008) would not be allowed to have ral tag, but people would try to use for it, I'm afraid, by mistake.
