Post by Trigger Happy »

This is poll about reform of tags system, which is mainly focused on getting rid off confusion in tags related to tracks with non-tarmac surface. Following text includes all proposals of reform made in Track tags reform discussion topic divided into 3 groups: current system, minor changes, brand new systems (in sum 6 proposals for change).

Take in consideration all proposals before sending your vote, please. If some point is not enough clear for you, don't forget to check the discussion topic, where additional details for each proposal are available.

Now follows list of tags of 1. current system and then all proposals of 2. minor changes and 3. brand new systems (subcategories in chronological order):

1. Current system:

[roa] road track (on public roads)
[ovl] oval track
[tri] tri-oval track
[stu] stunt track
[ral] rally track (stage from point A to point B)
[rax] rally-cross track (multi-surface, grass, gravel or ice circuits)
[kar] kart track
[mic] micro track
[wat] water track (for boats)
[oth] other (if any other previous doesn't fit)

b. additional tags:
[rwl] real world location (don't use the tag for: proposals of track, kart tracks, RC tracks and fictional tracks inspired by local roads)
[tpk] track pack (more different tracks are inside of attached .zip)
[evo] evolution pack (includes same track in more versions as it changed during different time periods)

2. Proposals of minor changes in current system:

a. Proposal of Trigger Happy:
same like 1. only [ral]/[rax] tags replaced by following:
[stg] for all rally stages
[drt] for all dirty circuits with visible path no matter if it's partially asphalted too or not
[ofr] from word off-road for open landscapes without any lmap path

+ to keep [kar] and [wat] tags, but delete [tri] tag as useless

b. Proposal of Quklis:
same like 1. only [ral]/[rax] tags replaced by:
[ral] rally track (for all non-tarmac tracks)

+ new additional tag: [stg] stage
+ deleting of [kar], [tri] and [wat] tags as useless

c. Proposal of Lukeno1:
same like 1. only [ral]/[rax] tags replaced by:
[rax] RallyCross circuit (mixed surface, tarmac + other)
[ofr] Off-road circuit (mixed surface, no tarmac)
[stg] Rally stage

+ to keep [kar] tag, but delete [tri] and [wat] tags as useless
+ new additional tag: [gam] Recreation of a track from another game (fictional track)

d. Proposal of Bouncebackability:
same like 1. only [ral]/[rax] tags replaced by:
[ral] any off road racing (mixed surface, tarmac rally stage, tarmac + other, gravel etc etc)

+ to keep [kar] and [wat] tags, but delete [tri] tag as useless
+ new additional tags: [stg] Rally stage

3. Brand new systems:

a. Proposal of The Great Falcon:
[type of surface] [lapping system] [attributes (= present additional tags - optional)]

Type of surface. Here, from grippier to dirtier - 0 is perfection clean circuit and that 6 is the most non-tarmac (5 letters tag)
[dirt0] Professional Circuit (F1, WTCC, etc...) Perfect clean!
[dirt1] Kart Circuits: Some particles of dirt...
[dirt2] Street Circuits: Some more dirt
[dirt3] Road course which is mainly tarmac but contains some dirt
[dirt4] Ancien tarmac: Old looking and feeling tarmac.
[dirt5] Semi Road: Half Road, Half Dirt
[dirt6] Off Road: Total dirt

The lapping system would be how to do a lap: (2 letters tag)
[lp] Loop: Car's going from point A to point A
[st] Stage: Rally stages; Point A to Point B
[ls] Loop Stage: Car go on a road then go no the same road but in the opposite direction; Point A to Point B to Point A
[ot] Other Lapping System: Anything that's not above

Attributes (similar to present additional tags). Defines some properties of the tracks or the set of track: (3 letters tag)
[whm] Stand for: Wild HMAP (For tracks where the HMAP may really disturb the driving)
[rwl] real world location (don't use the tag for: proposals of track, kart tracks, RC tracks and fictional tracks inspired by local roads)
[gmi] Google map inspired: Track based for a Satellite shot of some non-track area and it may not be a [rwl]
[tpk] track pack (more different tracks are inside of attached .zip)
[evo] evolution pack (includes same track in more versions as it changed during different time periods)

example: Maciej1's Bahrain International Circuit : [dirt0] [lp] [rwl] [tpk]

GrXS - Racetracks (95-100% tarmac) shorter than 400
GrM - Racetracks between 400-750
GrXL - Racetracks longer than 750
Oval - Oval courses (D-oval, quad-oval, tri-oval, etc), street, dirt and ice ovals included
Roval - Racetracks that include oval parts
Road - Racetracks that include public roads (tarmac rally stages included)
Street - Racetracks that include public streets
Offroad - Tracks with dirt/mud/sand/grass/snow sections
Stunt - Tracks with big elevation changes or crazy sections (track crosses itself without a bridge or jump)

additional tags:
Real-world - All tracks that can be found in the real-world (demolished tracks and documented projects included)
Stages - Point-2-point courses
Trackpack - Groups of ANY kind of tracks (historical evolution, remixes, etc)

Note: I tried to make sum all proposals as best as possible. If somebody is not satisfied, tell me and I'll correct it.

Thanks to all people, who sent their vote! :ghug:

The results will be applied in Handbook tomorrow and all topics will be checked too and their tags corrected, if necessary. ;)

So does it means that the motion isn't accepted since we 50% of votes to pass a law? :ugeek:

Nice work, I only have one question though, if the track in question is a rally stage track, is it properly tagged as [ral] [stg] Track or [stg] Track, considering the [stg] tag is described "for rallies", so there is no need for the [ral]? Or can the [stg] tag be used in other types too, like [wat] perhaps?

stg can be used for anything, not only rallies - water tracks, stunts, even ovals if you will make a ''from A to B'' course in its map. :)

Edited: In case of rallies [ral] [stg] Track is correct, because if anybody search stages, he wants all of them. ;)

Well, and when it's rally stage, but on public roads, is it [ral] [stg], [roa] [stg] or [ral] [roa] [stg]?

Well, so it's what I expected. If rally is on tarmac, it's still a rally. Thanks Ivo.

[ral][stg] rally germany
[ral][stg] rally bohemia
[ral] Ededee
[ral] e.g. Croft Rallycross track
basically, if its offroad its a [ral], if its tarmac, but is rally-esque, eg a tarmac rally stage, its a [ral]. if its meant to be a [ral], its a [ral] :bg:
