Original Track Update Project 2010

Hello, GR community!

The community is very eager to update the original tracks, like in 2005 for original tracks and 2006 for world tour (this project was never finished entirely), and here's the 'official' thread for it. The rules aren't that strict, but they're important to keep the project well-organized. Btw don't worry about rule 1.8 and 1.8b, the requirements to pass these rules won't be that high ;) Here are the rules:

Rules
1. Project rules

1.1 Each track can be booked by up to 3 different trackmakers.
1.1b If a track has 1 finished version, then it can be booked by 2 trackmakers, if 2 versions, then by 1. If 3 versions are finished, no one can't book it.
1.1c If you can't book a track, you're allowed to finish and release it (obeying rule 1.4), but it will not be in the official pack.
1.2 A trackmaker can have up to 2 different tracks booked at a time.
1.3 A trackmaker can finish as many tracks as he wants, but only one version of a track.
1.4 Once the track is finished it has to be posted in the Original Track Update -thread.
1.5 The project won't be declared as finished until there's at least one version of every track.
1.6 After every track has at least 1 finished version, there will be a voting for those tracks which have more than 1 version. The version with most votes will be added to the official pack.
1.7 Author's comments in track properties must include name of project, original author (Hannu/Jukka) and the name of updater.
1.8 If someone has booked and released a track, that has very low quality and does not improve the original track, can be declined by the choice of organizer (AleksiNir).
1.8b If the track won't be extremely low-quality, but remarkably lower quality than other versions of the track candinating on the election, it can be declined by the choice of organizer.
1.9 The track has to be posted before 2 months have passed since the booking, after that it can be booked by others. Of course exceptions can be made, if the track is almost finished. This occurs only, when the track has 3 bookings.

2. Track updating rules

2.1 Tracks must remain recognizable as the original track.
2.2 No big changes in layout.
2.2b No change in pit position.
2.3 No big changes in theme, eg. [stc] must stay as [stc] track.
2.4 No big changes in surroundings, eg. track on desert can't be in jungle.
2.5 "Evolution", as in [evo] tag, is allowed, as long as it doesn't break rule 2.1
2.6 World size can be changed up or down from original by up to 20.
2.7 Small changes in hmap are allowed.
2.8 No changes in rotation allowed, but up to 5° change in view angle and 10° in zoom is allowed.
2.9 You can take layout and hmap directly from original track, but it is recommended to do most of the scenery from scratch.

3. Voting rules

3.1 Anyone registered to GRRF can vote.
3.2 Voter can vote for 1 version of every track, that has more than 1 finished versions.
3.3 Voting election will be elected after all tracks have at least 1 version.
Edit: Results

The project is now over, election chose the best tracks of the project per each updated track. You can see the details of the voting in this post, here are direct links to two zip files containing the elected tracks:

part 1 - part 2

All particular submitted tracks

If you want to taste more than only the few elected tracks, here are available links to all tracks, which the election was choosing from plus several other submitted versions, which weren't approved for the poll according rules 1.8 and 1.8b or because were submitted too late for election (marked by sign "*").

Well, I would like to book France, but few points:

Can I move the pits closer to the road, or:
pave the pitlane?

Would it be ok if I would have flatten the ditches a bit?

Can I make two versions of France: the normal one and some Bonus, like we have seen in '05 project?

At everything: yes.

I was thinking about France too, but I did not book because right now I don't have much motivation for trackmaking. Maybe I'll have to rethink when I get the motivation, since we're already getting a high quality version of it :yummy:

I added time stamps to the bookings in post #1, for the rule 1.9. And btw, it's not a problem when there's only one booking and your time has expired, only when there's 3 bookings and someone else wanting it. ;)

Did we decide if we must make a track from scratch or can we edit the original??

Oh yes... Well, yes, you can. It's very hard to do a precise copy of the layout by drawing it yourself, actually taking layout directly from original is suggested. And hmap. But for the scenery it's probably better do the most of it from scratch :cool2:

I'll add something about this to the rules.

I will try to make my tracks without changes of main AI line (pit AI lane I'll change).

i havent made a decision yet, although have some ideas, but just to say, i hadnt noticed until now just how close the original tracks are to the edges of the maps; something i try and avoid at all costs when i make tracks, not a lot of room on some of them for a lot of scenery details. This may prove a little tougher than i first imagined :D

Isn't it the day when the track was booked? It would be 12th May.

Yes it is, I forgot it might be a bit unclear since you don't use the same way to show dates everywhere.

What do you mean? Italy is a stunt track anyway.

I meant if I could make an offroad track surface...?

I'd suggest not to create an offroad Italy track because I think that it 's a basic idea of the track to be a tarmac stunt track.
But IMO you can insert some offroad parts.

I'd suggest the possibility of an original, tarmac-style one, and one resurfaced to the off-road way? :)

I have some minor questions concerning the pits:
a) Is any change of pit position forbidden? Or are some little movements allowed????
b) Can one pit crew be deleted if it's necessary ( 1st pit crew in Australia is on the racing line)????

Would be great if someone could help me.
