Hi guys just had an idea. Obviously we have the Track of the Month competition.
Has anyone ever thought of or experimented with the idea of a Car of the Month competition? Just a thought

There have been lots of discussions about it in the past and there were even attempts at it but it never just seemed to work.

how comes, could be identical format to ToM couldn't it? That's worked for years

But carmakers were in past years much less active than trackmakers. Sometimes only 2-4 car per month. So it's hard to make elections continuing for years.

Or we just make a Car of three month (4 elections a year)...

That's an idea. But there does seem to be a lot more than 2-4 cars being released per month these days. Or yes like XYY just said, we could have quarterly elections. But i think atm we're getting nearly as many cars as we are tracks so monthly elections should be possible.

I think that can be different in two months...
and we would also need someone who manages this project.
Have you got any idea who will manage that one?

for start I´d suggest best F1 2010 pack election btw I hope Ms... is working on them because his F1 was best all the time

Ok we'll stick with the quarterly, or even maybe bi-monthly elections.
And i agree we need someone to manage it. We need to find out who would be interested

Themed competition might motivate carmakers for doing certain packs Maybe this could work with tracks too, like there was that road-oval competition back then?

I like that F1 2010 at least.

There could be ToM-like election too.

Themed competitions, ahh genius lol.

And ok, that's one name on the shortlist then. Even if there's a few people working on it, we can't expect one person to do everything just incase they are busy during important periods such as deadlines for voting etc. I'm happy to contribute, but we need people with free time if possible.
And how do we go about actually setting it up?

If it's only every two month or every three month, I could also help

ok so every 2 months it is. If after a period of two months theres not enough tracks for an election, it can be extended to a third month. Eg march/april/may instead of just march/april. Make sense?

And right so me, XYY, and Quklis have put our names down to help out in this. 3 people should be enough? so how do we go about organising everything?

There is already a tom.gene-rally.com... why not com.gene-rally.com? As long as Crono is OK with it, of course...

I was going to put my candidature for that but go ahead I'd personally not make a website... Just a nomination thread every 2/3/4 months and a "Results" thread where the results would be posted... WAY simpler than a dedicated website...
Also, nomination would go as this: Like in ToM, people can vote nominated as much cars as they want. But only cars Not whole carpacks...
Then, at voting time, 3 votes would be taken for each person... 5 would be too much... And again, vote only for a car, no car packs...

About formula of year: Well, looking at views/download count of the respective threads from the authors is way enough to see clear winner (Ms... Rules all the way anyway )

I say: Quklis, start a nomination thread and let's nominate for January, Feb and march

It's got my support, assuming it is run correctly.

Time showed, that most valuable point of ToM is, that it saved so much top things out of forum - concentrated, sorted them on one place and the tracks are still available in public sharing. So I would appreciate a web-site archive with results including the top cars for sure. This is only way, how can CoM earn wider general value for community in long-time horizon, not only short few days of fame for a carmaker after publication of each results, I believe.

I'm not sure I like a "no carpacks" rule, for a couple reasons...

1. Most cars are released in packs. Sure, you can nominate just one, but this isn't the format that most cars are seen in
2. Cars in carpacks are almost always more similar to each other then tracks in trackpacks
3. Cars are meant to be raced against each other, and people (well, me at least!) will usually race cars against others in the same carpack, something that is not really possible with tracks

cool guys thanks for the ideas. i do think we should allow carpacks for reasons bduddy has already explained.
The dedicated website idea does sound preferable for archive reasons. So i'm gonna go away and be back tomorrow with the CoM rules (subject to approval by you guys )

I think we should use 1 file for each car which is containing all other cars of the pack but we create a readme file with the cars who could be voted

XYY asked me if I could help with a website for the "car of the month". I started to design a layout - I ever wanted to make a Layout thats related to GeneRally (to the colors of the menu). I hope you like it - or not^^ Criticism is welcome.
