SnakeDitor: Snake your tracks

Post by curveo »

SnakeDitor software is a complete track editor for GeneRally. The track designed with it can be directly used in GeneRally.

version 1.0: land map creation, based on veri basic primitives (circular arcs and lines).

version 1.10: Hmap for everybody
hmap creation was added. SnakeDitor is now able to create hmap, that can be directly imported in TrackEditor. This new feature also contains bridge management.
Another feature was added: undo-redo management.

Version 1.20:SnakeDitor is now a track editor (except for the objects).
SnakeDitor is now able to manage AI lines, and checkpoints.

Just one remark about the documentation: the road between the menu and the content is the menu scrollbar . It works fine on IE7 and Firefox (2 and 3).

Version 1.21: Correction of a crash while modifying the WS, and while deleting a point of the PIT line.

Version 1.30:Add a powerfull object management, and powerfull extension of the kerb feature, interaction with external softwares
SnakeDitor now provides an object editor:
* management of single objects (like GeneRally 'Track Editor'). Object modification included.
* management of complex objects (line of objects, or circular arc of objects)
* management of object curves (for example, a curve of concrete walls)
* management of object areas (for example, a forest)

Other interesting features also exist:
* zoom in/out
* send automatically the track in an external tool ('GeneRally', a track viewer, or the 'Track Editor')

I am afraid that it could appear a little bit complex (especially kerb feature), but after reading the documentation, it should be clearer.

You can have a look to the demo track to understand how it works and experiment the features.
I hope you will enjoy it, and I hope it will contribute to improve the general quality of the tracks.

Version 1.31: Add a correction to prevent crash due to mouse wheel

Version 1.32: several improvments (display, objects, scrollbar) and bug corrections,
and add the compliance with the new objets of GeneRally 1.10 (see my detailled post to get more details on this version)

Version 1.33: quality improvment (Jul 06, 2011 7:36 pm)
(see my detailled post to get more details on this version)

Version 1.40: compliance with GeneRally 1.20 (Jul 18, 2012)
(see my detailled post to get more details on this version)

Enjoy :D

No, this is meant to be a verb, so the correct form is live ;)

You're actually right, TGF. Curveo probably means "long live GeneRally", which is correct; "long life to GeneRally", while somewhat odd, is also right. In any case, I completely agree! And I think that SnakeDitor will play no small part in that life...

Long live GeneRally means = May GeneRally live long.
Long life to GeneRally = Wishing GeneRally a long life.

:D

So... what you don't understand ? Be more precise and perhaps someone will be able to help you.

I use Version 1.21 and seem to not understand how to move the pitstalls around.

It's hard to deal with the curves,

and I don't undestand this lmap thing.

Thanks all for your linguistic analysis and precisions :D
I agree with the 2 suggested sentence forms ;)

resir014:
to set the pitstalls, you have to put the anchor point with the green arrow on a linear part of the track. Then, the other anchor point will be used to set the length of the pitstalls, and the distance from the track.
The pit number will be computed automatically according to the pitstalls length.

I agree that manipulating the curves within SnakeDitor seems to be strange, because other software often used bezier curves.
A good way is to design your track progressively: start by the "start area", and add new parts.
After making several tracks, you should understood better how SnakeDitor works.

About hmap: insert a first point on your track: press the SHIFT key, and left click on your track.
Create another point somewhere else on your track. You can modify the height of this new point by moving the control points on the left area. Press CTRL key, and move these points until 200, for example.
Then you can generate your TRK file, with hmap selected. You can see the result in GeneRally. Then you could add points somewherre and check in GeneRally what happens.
If you want to control more your hmap, you can set different height for each side of the road.

If you have precise questions, don't hesitate, I or someone else will try to help you.
Thanks

Creation of kerbs or lines is in the Support tab (in bottom of left menu is ''new strip'', but editing of their appearance is in Style tab.

:bump:
Quick question:
Whenever I export to .trk file (or export land to .bmp) the kerbs and other LMap strips are not exported. Any idea how to get them to export?

When you press the export button, the menu appears. There should be something like "data to export" then you can select the things you want to export. :rolf:

I check everything in Data to Export. It still doesn't export the kerbs. curveo?

Have you pressed button ''Draw the kerbs'' in bar at top-right, when you're saving the track?

Hi, I'm an old user from Generally Italia (previously signed on RSC before it crashed).
I would like to congratulate with Curveo for its excellent Snakeditor, my favourite track editor so far! :bg:

But... There is a big issue. I run Generally and its tools on a Netbook, my only pc now, wich has a maximum resolution of 1024*600. But I'm unable to use SnakeDitor because its window is sligthly larger than the screen, and some text and buttons are hidden... I can't click them at all! And resizing the SnakeDitor window doesn't work anyways... :shake:

Please Curveo, is it possible to reduce the SnakeDitor window to something like 800*500? I think it should be fine, and there would be enough space for the tools... I hope you may do it for the Netbook-powered people like me! :sorry:
