[rwl] [cir] Roskilde Ring

Post by LupinIIIFan32 »

This is the Roskilde Ring, which held races from 1955-69, before a housing estate complained about the noise. The zip folder has 2 courses, the short and the long loop. There is writing on the course: It is period for it with "Pirelli", "Phillips" "Politken" and "Ford" logos dotting the course. Hope you enjoy it!

Oh god... 1/10 :shake:

As Pacman said, please take a look at the track making tutorials. They provide loads of informations to create better track. ;)

There are also some useful tools like GRHMEdit to smoothly edit the HMap. ;)

It is perfectly possible to create a great hmap with just the TE ;)

To everyone, thank you for your comments, but I prefer to use track editor to design my courses. I spend very long developing courses, but I only want buildings, corners, sandtraps, painting on tracks to be correct. To me it's not, nor will it ever be about winning ToM, but more to fill a gap for these courses. I only care about driveability and the way to use objects to create the areas around the track. I have worked with developments of this course (called "Copenhagen" in my original design, and nowhere near as good....) since Oct. 2009. To me, if people can race my courses without too much trouble, it works for me. The "dithering" of roads doesn't appeal to me, nor will it ever. I don't try to be Gran Turismo for true photo realism; I just create courses to make people happy.

you can make people even happier BY using external editors and making it look more realistic - people won't be as happy if they have to look at it while racing. (no offense)

there have been some excellent tracks made just in trackeditor. they just require a lot more patience to make the finishing product look very good. look at some of egamad's tracks to see what i mean.

Here, you need to increase the 'rope length' that you use, this will solve the problem of the wobbly lines on some parts of the track. and think more about coherent things. such as paths to houses, and using objects better than you have in parts here.

It's ok. But this would have been good in 2003/2004 when tracks like this were the best. So, about 3 or 4 out of 10 from me. :bg:

i completly understand when you make tracks only with te...but good tracks need more time :P
look at my melbourne, sakhir and hungaroring...this tracks maked only with te too (a bit paint ;) ).
the layout is very...ahm...has not real curves, so maybe you should make more rope lenght

the track would be better for everyone, if you spent more time on details IMO

so general:
- smooth hmap
- more lmap details
- more objects details
- spent more time

5/10 :)
now i hope i could help you

But I'm still not happy with your trackmaking style, or the tracks you produce

Apologies if harsh, but as JWong said, if you want to make people enjoy your tracks and happy with it, you have to atleast include some photorealism around it. You can use paint to do so. ;)

Here it is:
The new Roskilde Version 2.0

I edited it in paint, by drawing the track signage in paint. Hopefully this is a much better looking course. Hope you like it!

Is there a difference? Did you upload the original v1 by mistake? To me it looks exactly the same.

No, the great falcon, this isn't a joke. If you don't like it that's fine, but to call my track a "joke" is the worst kind of insult. You don't see me making fun of your cars/tracks, so if you don't like it, just don't keep it.

I don't think there's so much fun to make out of my tracks/cars *at least the recent ones*... Seriously, this is full of bumps and things... The roads are as f**ked up as... hum... can't find word to suit it well... Just please read the threads talking about making good track and stick to it. :meditate:

[rwl] [cir] Roskilde Ring V3

Post by Alex »

Here is a really improved version of LupinIIIfan32's Roskilde Ring. I pm'ed him a couple of days ago and he said i could upload an improved version of his track.

Here are the improvements:
Actual logos of Politiken, Ford, Pirelli and Philips used.
Track objects remade from scratch
Lmap improved by straightening up defective parts and completely remaking the outside dirt/snow sections.
New AI Line

cons:
You have to slow down when passing the bridge by the Politken logo.
No Hmap modifications

Please, no rude comments. If you don't like it, don't keep it.

BTW, there is a second version called CV2 standing for Camera View 2 in the .zip.

EDIT: THE ORIGINAL TOPIC'S LOCKED SO I HAD TO MAKE A NEW ONE.

The Hmap looks still quite poor. :|
Here a 8 (!) minutes attempt at a smoother hmap. Only picture...

Well done XYY! Did you modify the bridge area Hmap yet? If you would like, we could upload this together as a final V4 version. :bg:

I think there is no point uploading the v4 before you practically redo the whole track.
