[rwl] [cir] [evo] [tpk] Silverstone 1948-87

Post by Bouncebackability »

Hello

I began these a few months ago, then got bored of trackmaking through august, but recently had a desire to finish them. So here are the first three incarnations of Silverstone.
Obviously being so long ago, theres not a lot of resources for great accuracy, but i can tell you, ive gone through lots photos and videos trying to find anything to fill in some of the gaps (thanks to Ivo for supplying some of them :bg: ) so some things may be wrong, such as when things were built/destroyed (in particular the hangers on hanger straight :headbang: ), but its as accurate as i could make them.

just a few other explanations... the 1948 version has the 'lights' in the middle of the runway. In 1948 with the cars heading directly towards each other, they put up a canvas sheet in the way so drivers wouldnt be distracted by on coming cars. Where i have used concrete posts marking corners is to resemble the oil drums they used to use to mark out the course. a little damaging for GR i put some hay bales in between them to soften the blow.

i hope you enjoy them, there may be more to come :shhh:

Comments welcome

Cheers, BBA!

I very like that pack, asphalt texture is just great, maybe the airstrip needs a better one. Some details that I dislike: every man standing nearly track is looking same, clone attack? Cars on the parking - there are probably too much of them, I'm not sure that people had so much cars those years ;)

:iagree: with zero
maybe you could do those typical runway paintings (I think they are still there in silverstone today)

and I personally think that the grass is a bit too green and the infield is too empty
it might have been like that in real life but i think it's a bit "boring"

otherwise it's simply great

He means evolution, how track changes in years.

I really like these kinds of track(pack)s, but the first bad thing is too many cars. Otherwise its great!

In fact I think, that there is too few lmap cars now, the track was obviously flooded by them during meetings like anthill. :D Maybe problem of the runway texture is, that it's not parallel to the runway's direction. With infield no problem, it's still almost untouched airfield (int must have empty place to avoid crashes) - 3-5 years after war there was almost no development, so I don't expect, that you missed anything important. :)

Definitely great pack. :bg: And the proportion of straights rules. :rocks:

Please make more historic tracks :yummy: this one is great (and previous versions too ;) )
I didn´t even know about 1948 layout, it seems quite dangerous to me because of those two opposite straights in the middle :D

good job :)

Silverstone 1978

Post by Bouncebackability »

i found this one whilst looking through my GR folder the other day, it got left behind.

so i made a few tiny updates and was ready to add it the this thread. Then out comes a new GR, so i had a play with v1.10 and did a version for that too... both versions include a National circuit.

:2c: my trackmaking is very rusty :sorry:

enjoy,
BBA!

one last version...

1987, I may as well release it, the chicane is a bit fast which was the reason for it sitting in the folder
