New Year's music
New Year's music
What newyear-ish songs may you recommend. It is very interesting for me your native songs - Finnish, Czhech, Brazil and so on. Links are welcomed!

Re: New Year's music
I would ask to Dan, have we any in CZE? I don't remember somebody to sing any special song for that day on that day. Only remember one by Karel Kryl (from 1979), but it's not much funny (but is great). Christmas songs we have tons, but New Year's?

I can't think of any native songs at the moment, but one of my favorites is definitely U2's "New year's day"!

Re: New Year's music
Wow, communists in CZE were not so successful. The tree is called Christmas Tree here. I know, that 24th Dec. was working day until 1989 (in 1989 it was Sunday, since 1990 regularly), but 25th and 26th were free days (even if in CZE is tradition of giving gifts on 24th evening by Baby Jesus, who place them under the tree /no Santa or another uncle/), Christmas were and are still very important, so the reason, why we have so much Christmas songs like Dan noted. However now after the communist ruling only about 50% of nation believe in any God and just 1/3 of nation goes to church on the Midnight pray on 24th. But almost all have Christmas and Christmas tree - to give gifts to friends and family and have nice time (no matter if they use no religion or any other like e.g. in family of prime minister, who are Judes is tradition to make Christmas after Chanuka, in their case is the person for Christmas called Baby Moses) - so the Christmas lost their religious roots partially.
Some of Chrismas songs them for you, Buka:
Nesem Vam noviny (We're bringing you news),
Vesele vanocni hody (Happy Christmas day),
Narodil se Kristus Pan (The lord has been borned),
Jak jsi krasne nevinatko (You're so beautiful, little one),
Stedry vecer nastal (Christmas Eve happens).
