No "open" option for ZIP and RAR files

Post by Alex »

I know this problem has existed since the dawn of this website, but why can't I open a ZIP or RAR instead of having to save it then open it? It would be a valuable timesaver if we could open them. Just my :2c:
Look to the left ----------------> that's to the right, mate :(

At least opening zips should be no problem. But honestly, if you e.g. want to view a file only, for me it would be way too much work to change the mode from "download" to "open" (and for the next download change it back) - so I quickly download it (always on the desktop for me :D ) and then unzip it. And the other pro you'll have - there won't be files in your temporary folder ;)

If you used DAP, for example, then you can still open the files straight off the server. Other similar programs should also allow this.

IMHO This is problem for your browser, not for forum.

E.g. Firefox will always ask you after pressing on zip attachment's icon, if you wish just to save it (and where on hdd) or to open it immediately (7zip.exe in my case as example).
