I use the keyboard with the arrow keys. And I think this thread should have a title more like "What type of controller do you use to play GeneRally?" than just gamepad.

Left hand: (A) middle finger, throttle - (Z) index finger brake
Right hand: ([) middle finger, left -(]) 4th finger, right

(I recall that magicj used to throttle/brake with the right hand, which I found very peculiar :D )

 I can't do this with my hand even if I have the longest fingers I ever seen.

Maybe because I have a french Keybord! :)
my ([) is with the 5 and my (]) is on the right of 0.

Not really: I (used to) do it, too. On a US QWERTY keyboard I use(d) O/L for accelerate/brakes and Z/X for turning.

Nowadays I used a gamepad for extended gaming sessions. My new keyboard's ergonomics suck a*s, and it's painful to game on it only, after long periods of time.

Keabord. 'J' - throttle, 'M' - brake, ',' - left, '.' - right (with middle and index fingers on both hands). I use these buttons since me and my brothers shared one keabord for playing GR together. I sat in the middle and had buttons in the middle of a keabord. :)

Once I tried to use a gamepad, but I was slower with it so I returned to a keabord.

Yes, it's normal to be slower, but after 30 minutes, all the skills come back!

I'm significantly slower with keyboard and 30 minutes of practice surely doesn't change that. ;)

But in the end it's all about what you're used to and the amount of practice. After 9 years I'm too much into gamepad but I'm sure I'd be as fast with keyboard after extensive testing.

Basic WASD

I think it's easier with WASD than with arrows :D

Arrow Keys. On my old Laptop I use PLÖÄ (They are arranged like WASD on a German Keyboard).

I use the numpad on the right of the keyboard. 5 = throttle, 2 = brake, 1 = left and 3 = right. The shape is exactly the same
as with the standard arrow keys, but I like those more because they are upper and more right placed on the keyboard ;)

When I play with a friend, I use WASD.

:bump: I like to use x for brake, and then up, left, and right arrow keys for acceleration, left, and right steering respectively :D
