Object creation in GR2
Hello guys,
I don´t know how object creation will be in GR2, if there will be only the release default objects or if there will be a chance to create custom 3D objects (it would be a perfect game addons forum ).
The reason I am opening the thread is beause with this fantastic illumination system GR2 will have, all the art-work objects included in the Lmap won´t get the correct light effect, or a shadow as they are flat, so it will look a bit weird. So I would like to know if there is any plan to create a 3D object editor or something similar, (maybe something based in the Car Editor), or if it will be the team devoloping the game who will take care of create all the objects. No doubt that at any case it will be great, but just wanted to bring the object editor idea.
What do you think?
Cheers,
David

I think the team said they want to have hard-coded objects only like GR1, and personally I'd rather have it that way. I think part of the GR spirit is the creative use of limited objects when making tracks.

Re: Object creation in GR2
Personally I would like to see a limited opportunity, e.g. a very strict system, where people could submit made 3D objects for at first a community selection (e.g. by voting) and those most liked then for official approval/denial (visual standards and consistency with rest of game, no bugs, not cause of performance issues etc) and then it could be added directly into latest version. And by "strict" I mean really strict, not more than 2-3 objects per year passing through it.
My GR Racing Stats; thanks to GWR!

That actually sounds quite interesting Ivo . I'd maybe even try to take part in that competition .

Yeah I like this idea aswell so the Generally spirit gets intact, but I think it would be nice to have more variety in what comes to objects now we have a chance to get some new.
I was pointing to the fact of those Lmap painted objects that won´t have illumination effects or shadow as they are plain. Per exampe these tyre bridges, side of the track advert panels, etc. So having them included in the list of available objects won´t harm.

Yup, my requests exactly. The advert panels should also have the same physics as the GR2 hay bales, where they are moved when a car makes a contact with itBlack Rebel wrote:Yeah I like this idea aswell so the Generally spirit gets intact, but I think it would be nice to have more variety in what comes to objects now we have a chance to get some new.

Re: Object creation in GR2
Yeah, and other objects such as cars, trucks, etc. All that objects that normally got painted in the Lmap.
Re: Object creation in GR2
I think the object creation should be as free as possible.
I understand the potential technical difficulties, but original GR was popular because of it's wide customization possibilities and I think that should be emphasized in GR2 as well.

But the original has very confined customisation possibilities???
I think it would have a negative effect if custom objects were possible, but maybe Trigger Happy's suggestion is a good middle-ground solution.

Re: Object creation in GR2
^ For objects, sure, but in general, for a game made in 2002 they were great.
Anyway, I don't see how custom objects could potentially be worse besides maybe technical problems.

Re: Object creation in GR2
I just opened thsi thread thinking about illumination having not effect in Lmap painted objects, that´s it. So, any solution would be good, but I think having the most common painted and used objects get a 3D model on the new track editor.
