Above 100! (And other forum milestones)
Two years of GR International Forum
Two years ago, on 26th December 2009, I think most of you were having a celebration of christmas. But then, Ivo, Luke and I was not - as we had the silly idea to set up a replace forum instead of RaceSimCentral, which died just some days before the start. Fortunately we had the then-moderators' support (who of course become moderators at once), so the members list extended quite quickly.
Some months later, we've grown out our original server, and then we were with Ivo a bit frightened about our next move, but fortunately Crono offered his help, so that GRIF could offer its service on a higher quality.
And then... more and more of you did join. That attracted James' attention, after some discussion, we've decided to join our work some months ago: since then this forum serves as an official forum, and GR 1.1 boosted and refreshed the members list again...
And today? There are just a tad bit less than 3000 members, which is a great number from a 9 years old game, after all those obstacles! So, what I want to say actually, as a founder and lately with a reduced interest in the forum, I just want you to wish a happy christmas, a happy new year, and a nonetheless happy birthday for GR International Forum!
And as past sentence: I just can't thank enough time for those, who did contribute in any way for GRIF, let it be either active or passive. But I need to thank of course the hard works of Raska, The lost Ninja, Kory Miller, Buka, James Burgess, Rich Nagel, Markku, LongBow, Lukeno94, XYY, Paw, Crono, and most of all: Tuomo and Ivo!

Re: Two years of GR International Forum
The hardest work of all was done by you, my friend, but I'm sure you expected that comment, as for me, all I did was provide some English-related guidance and a few ideas/open a few of the necessary threads. I recognize I was not the most popular choice, but hopefully I've proved my doubters wrong.
GR 1.1 brought a major lease of life into a game that some, although not all, felt was growing stale, but if it wasn't for this forum, and RSC hadn't been replaced, then who knows what would've happened. Hopefully the members list will continue to grow, and the next version of GeneRally, when it comes, will stun us all! Here's to the next two years of GeneRally!

At the beginning I didn't expected, that it will be commitment for more than few weeks/months. I'm still amazed, that we're still here and talking about 2nd anniversary.
BTW posts moved to correct topic next to other milestones, which we reached all together.

But if we don't mind the spambots, it would be some less......Alex wrote: Really? It wasn't that long ago we were celebrating the 2000th. Good job guys.

Well, XYY, it's an interesting fact we don't have to know. However if it's really so, then start spamming up the forum, that would be a good omen.

I don't know for how long has this been so, but I think a pretty important milestone was, when a google search for "generally" started turning out the gene-rally.com as the first result.

Brilliant news! Good to see this game finally getting the recognition it has deserved since 2003.egamad wrote:I don't know for how long has this been so, but I think a pretty important milestone was, when a google search for "generally" started turning out the gene-rally.com as the first result.

Well, I think Google often adjusts its search results based off of what you have searched before, etc... It would be interesting to see a test on a computer that has never gone to any GR sites...egamad wrote:I don't know for how long has this been so, but I think a pretty important milestone was, when a google search for "generally" started turning out the gene-rally.com as the first result.
EDIT: Either way, it's good to see GR near the top... I remember when I was looking for another GR forum after the first extended downtime of RSC, it was very difficult to find this forum's initial incarnation because a bunch of other things came up before it that had the word "generally"...

I like short, simple signatures!
Re: Above 100! (And other forum milestones)
I think my computer is quite "fresh" as far as google searching goes.. I've done a fresh reinstall of windows a couple of weeks ago, and I don't think I've searched for anything generally related yet. I do visit this forum of course, but I doubt that this has had any effect on the results.
Re: Above 100! (And other forum milestones)
IDK if it is a milestone, but we have 9 people banned right now!
Re: Above 100! (And other forum milestones)
It means, that our forums is more and more popular, as most of banned "users" are spambots
Re: Above 100! (And other forum milestones)
We just reached exactly 17000 views on offtopic!
Edit: wait thats weird, most of the topics here have lots of views, it won't count to 17000, it would count to even more...

Oh, posts, i was already thinking, "how could that topic have over 60000 views while offtopic has just 17000?"
Re: Above 100! (And other forum milestones)
In 2 weeks Lukeno94 should reach 3000 posts, and Ivo should reach 5000 posts in a month!
