GRIF 2012 F1 Prediction Game

Hi everybody!

Here are some simple rules:
  • Predict the top 10 positions in the results of each grand prix and the answer to the bonus question.
  • No need to sign up, Just send me your top 10 (i.e. 1st - Vettel, 2nd - Button, 3rd - Webber...) and your bonus answer. You can do so by either posting your prediction in this thread, or preferably by sending a PM to me here if you want to keep it secret. :shhh:
  • Only 1 prediction can be made per round.
  • If you post more than 10 names, i will only take the top 10 in your list, and if you post less, you wont get so many points. I will also take them in the order you write them! you can not use the same name more than once.
  • Do not edit your post, edited posts will be ignored unless you make a mistake (only 9 names for instance) or a driver has pulled out and i inform you that you can make the change. However, it is your responsiblity, so if you notice a mistake you made, create a new post for the correction.
  • Predictions can be made at any time. However I will not accept predictions made between the start of the 1st practice session and the completion of the race!
  • You will get 3 points for getting a predicition spot on, 2 points if you are one position out, and 1 point if the driver you predicted finished within the top 10 so there is a maximum of 30 points available per race. I will post the results after each GP along with the running Tally for the championship.
  • The Bonus question is worth three points for a correct answer.
  • In the case of a tie in the championship standings, positions will be decided on the number of spot-on predictions, then by the number of spot-on first places, then 2nd and so on
It's pretty simple, any questions just ask.

here is a list of all the names (in alphabetical order):
Alonso
Button
Di Resta
De La Rosa
Glock
Grosjean
Hamilton
Hulkenberg
Karthikeyen
Kobayashi
Kovalainen
Maldonado
Massa
Perez
Petrov
Pic
Raikkonen
Ricciardo
Rosberg
Schumacher
Senna
Vettel
Vergne
Webber
Cheers, BBA! :cflag:

---------------------------------------------------------------

Hi All!

With just under two weeks until the season starts, I should get this restarted!

Before I do that, can I have a few days of reflection on last season's. Are there any rules that you want changed, anything that should perhaps be added, may pole position prediction or the like? Or do you just want it kept the same? Anything is welcome and free to discuss.

Then on Sunday evening (11th) I shall edit this post with the full rules and predictions will be welcome for the first race!

Cheers, BBA!

Maybe predict everyone in the race rather than just the top 10. Could make things interesting.

I'd give 1 point if you have the name on the list, 2 points if you have correct position +-1, 4 points for correct position and 5 points for correct position on podium :). Or we can stay with the old system as well :D.

old, or maybe like how alex suggested.

I'd say Mad Dan's proposal is the best so far. Except that I'd say the correct position should give just 3 points and the podiums 4. It would keep the points more closer to each other.
Also, nice extras would be to guess the last driver to finish and maybe the polesitter. Or how many drivers will finish.

Or then the old system is good too. I'm not a big fan of having to pick all of the 24 drivers, partly because of the sheer extra job caused on BBA, partly because it would likely cause people to more likely put too many or too few names on the list and then it just becomes a hassle. And then again, the places outside of top 10 don't really matter since they get no points for those places.

Also, what about guessing who will retire in the race or the winning constructor?

I like the Dan idea in 1nsane's modification (but I'm afraid it could be too easy to get some points - cars are so reliable nowdays). Also I'd keep the guessing limited only on drivers (not constructors etc) and race itself (not Q), so I'd add not pole-sitter guess, but who'll score BL of the race. But just :2c:. :)

Not cars, rules :D
I said last last year that our commentators had similar game and they got 1 point if the driver is in top 10 and 2 points for exact plase, but BBA said it would have been too complicated gor him to count points. So I would go for the old one. It worked and it was simple.

i can look into adding more recognition for all the top 10. That shouldn't be too much of an issue.

i.e. perhaps 3 points for a spot on, 2 points for one position out, and 1 point for having the driver in the top 10?

Maybe some of these other suggestions indicate a bonus question in each race, the likes of which were discussed last year, such as "who will get the best lap?", "who will retire first?", "who will finish last?", or maybe more complex aswell, "will there be a safety car?", "will the winning gap be less that 1 second?". Perhaps for the same points as a spot on prediction?

However I don't want to increase the number of names from the top 10, as this would likely cause more issues with people's predictions.

I support both of these ideas. I wouldn't mind having more than one bonus question either.

Might add my suggestion here. (actually ripped off from another prediction game elsewhere :P)

2 points for spot on prediction
1 point for each driver on list, but in wrong position
1 point for correctly predicting Pole
1 point for correctly predicting Fastest Lap

There will also be bonus points:
1 point for predicting the top 3 drivers correctly
5 points for correctly predicting the entire Top 10

Yes, there could be one extra question for every race. Like how many safetycars were deployed during Monaco GP or Singapore GP, what was the winner's average top speed in Monza, etc..

Anymore suggestions, what is the best thing to go for? I want to allow predictions to be made from later tonight! if i don't hear anything more then I will just work with what I suggested as that summed up what most have said.

Top 10 + bonus question would be OK for me: spot on should score 2 points, rest one.

And here we go again, the pain of predicting which of the teams really are good and which are not... Arrrh. :D

1. Vettel
2. Hamilton
3. Räikkönen
4. Button
5. Alonso
6. Webber
7. Rosberg
8. Scumacher
9. Di Resta
10. Grosjean

Fastest Lap: Vettel

Although I have a hunch one or more of the top drivers will end up in a crash... Wouldn't surprise at all. And then the pain of not knowing anything about the teams continues until the next race...
