Trackmaking with Darjo
Trackmaking with Darjo
Hi there! I happen to have a lot of free time before university starts (I'll be an engineer!), so I decided to make some trackmaking videos. I will try to show you what I do when I trackmake, so you can see what tools and techniques I utilize, and hopefully can learn something along the way.
As always, excuse me for my pronunciation, since English is not my first language
So here we go, this the first episode!

Re: Trackmaking with Darjo
These videos help a lot. But since I don't have an action folder how to make the lines, borders etc.?

I can show that in another video, but as far as lines go you have to do this:
1. Select the track with the magic wand tool
2. Go to Select -> Modify -> Contract -> 1px
3. Go to Select -> Modify -> Border -> 1px
4. Paint the selection with the desired color

Re: Trackmaking with Darjo
However after I paint the section(lines and kerbs) around the line there's a more bright outline. I'm using CS5 instead of CS3, why this happens?

Re: Trackmaking with Darjo
Nevermind, I found out why - I usually make my layouts on a .psd format. Since the .psd has different properties than the .bmp maybe this is the reason why the faded outline is seen

Re: Trackmaking with Darjo
absolutely ivaneurope, I use a blank lmap.bmp opened in cs6 as a starting point. I also copy this map, and paste it into a blank .psd so that I can do some editing using layers (such as having a layer which is the screenshot of trackeditor). But I have to be careful to use the pencil tool, not the paint brush. Also any marquee tools may appear crisp in the .psd, but even using the pencil tool to fill marquee shapes causes 'bleeding'.
When I edit an lmap I constantly flick between the two files.

Re: Trackmaking with Darjo
Markus Möller used to have .psd land map files with layers and all kinds of fancy gradients, and he had an action tool that would save everything in a TE compatible .bmp file. I haven't tried to recreate that action tool but I'm sure it could be useful.
Anyways, I also uploaded ep. 3

Re: Trackmaking with Darjo
This helped me a lot - making the layout on .psd is useless. I used this format so I can use trackmap as reference, but now it ain't happen.Bouncebackability wrote:absolutely ivaneurope, I use a blank lmap.bmp opened in cs6 as a starting point. Looks like making real world based tracks will be tough.

Btw, do you still have those tools in your hard drive? I'd like to try them.
Re: Trackmaking with Darjo
Sadly I don't, Markus Möller had sent me the file by pm when RaceSimCentral was still up, and I was using my old computer

The rare times I've been working on rwl tracks I've just copied the trackmap to my lmap bmp. Maybe doesn't look as fancy but works as a reference.ivaneurope wrote: I used this format so I can use trackmap as reference, but now it ain't happen.

Darjo, very cool to have videos like those.

I am pleased to see you didn't put yourself in an awkward "sfmbe" situation at least.Darjo wrote: As always, excuse me for my pronunciation, since English is not my first language
I watched the first episode and I must say you are explaining rather well despite this. Using English actively will improve your proficiency for sure, so don't quit doing that.
