Re: Developer Blog

Frankly, I think we'll be able to play Half Life 3 before GR2.

Re: Developer Blog

"The continual refrain that somehow I'm desperate to "control" things is so far from the truth I'm really not even sure of another way to phrase my reaction now. I'm not going to respond to it again - as it seems to make very little difference to the frequency with which it appears. I...

Re: Developer Blog

Even I keep coming back hoping that I'll see something positive changing here. But every time I do come here, I see nothing new of note. Even this update is a series of bugfixes that should've been released 5 years ago. The community section is back, but now GRIF is pushed down to being level with P...

Re: Where to discuss other GR-like projects under developmen

Makes sense, particularly given that the first one is clearly not a true GR successor (and they state as such), whilst there's no evidence of the second one's existence right now.

GeneRally footage can be captured with the Xbox app!

Sorry if this isn't strictly in the right place - as I'm sure the older members know, I'm rather out of touch here! Well, I thought I'd come back and let you know that I was able to capture footage from GeneRally 1.2c using Windows 10's Xbox app. Some of you may know that it is quite a pain to set u...

Re: Developer Blog

Luke, you've misinterpret meaning of "different point of view". It seems like you feel satisfaction from the hypothetical GR2's failure - and that's not the point of view, it's idiocy, considering how much soul and time you contributed in GR1. Actually you are acting exactly like Kremlin ...

Re: Developer Blog

No, Emil, you assigning intentions to me is what is annoying. I voiced my opinion that it is dead, nothing more, nothing less, with the lack of blog posts being used as evidence as to WHY I think that. "It's dead, guys" is just a figure of speech that you've assigned far greater purpose to...

Re: Developer Blog

Saying "it's dead" is not provocative unless you want it to read it in that manner. I left the community due to the inability of certain people who are very much fans of the GR 2.0 direction to accept that other people may have major issues with the new direction, and those people were att...

Re: Developer Blog

Emil, that's not what a traitor is. Not even close. People are allowed to voice their opinions here... but they shouldn't have to worry about being personally attacked like that. The reason I come back is that I still hope I might be proven wrong... and then people like you go and prove me 100% righ...

@puttz: You meant TotalBiscuit, didn't you? Unfortunately he will never do WTF is... about freeware titles let alone older games that had been released far before the the show has existed, I'm afraid. Not sure if TB will ever review GR2, either. :worried: TB doesn't tend to do his WTF is... series ...

Re: GeneRally 2 - Kickstarter Launched

Luke, stop comparing this to Trackmania. It's a different situation entirely. About the only thing you could limit in GR2 without making it completely stripped down is the online multiplayer, and a differet amount of cars, I suppose. Honestly, if you have nothing new to say it might be prefferable ...

Re: GeneRally 2 - Kickstarter Launched

That is exactly the model we need for GR. There should be a free version to draw in those who are not already hardcore GR players (the members of this community) and then the pay version with extra features (online multiplayer, perhaps weather, extra vehicle physics like boats and bikes, etc.) Exce...

Re: GeneRally 2 - Kickstarter Launched

So... Trackmania Sunrise/original = Generally 2 paid Trackmania nations/united forever = Generally 2 free In both cases the free versions are based on the paid versions, but with less features  Wrong. The only valid comparison is United Forever (paid) and Nations Forever (free). Nations was ...

Re: GeneRally 2 - Kickstarter Launched

Its an interesting arguement when comparing it to Trackmania. I dont know anything about the later paid versions, but I know the original nations version, as mentioned, was free but you could pay for a more advanced version and/or the full Trackmania game. Exactly the proposal put forward for GR2 Y...

Re: GeneRally 2 - Kickstarter Launched

this is a hobby project based on a freeware game, so no, they don't necessarily deserve any compensation beyond voluntary donations. Considering that I've bought games like Skyrim, and Test Drive Unlimited 2 (IIRC), for much less than £8 on sales, and that I can pick up something as awesome and und...

Re: GeneRally 2 - Kickstarter Launched

I've been watching the Kickstarter on and off, and although I've made no secret over my viewpoint, I've not come back here to gloat, but to leave my genuine thoughts (leaving out some of the more personal views I have.) I have to say that Bba has hit the nail squarely on the head; GR 2.0 is not in a...

Re: Good bye and other personal announcements

The simple fact of the matter is that I have been thinking about moving on for a long time now, as several people will be aware. However, recent events and the direction of GeneRally have just caused me to put things in motion.

I don't personally dislike Steam, but the Kickstarter bit was widely discussed and everyone was aware of it. This Steam Greenlight thing, however, has only been made public to those who use Twitter. The fact still stands; there are plenty of people who are strongly anti-Steam and/or anti-DRM. And if...

Re: Developer Blog

Steam is most definitely a form of DRM. If you buy a game through Steam, it is linked to your account, and most games are engineered not to start without you being logged into your Steam account, and Steam running. "Steam is a digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer, and co...

Re: Developer Blog

There are people who are very anti-Steam, for starters. It's a form of DRM, that's another issue for some people. And said Steam fee increases the price even further. And there are people who are very dubious of Steam Greenlight games, myself included.
