Gzehoo's World Tour - Pack #1
Pack #2

Inspired by zgr's World Tour, I decided to run with my new tracks collection.
All of them are fictional, and located in some real-life places (even if it would be very difficult).

GWT Tracklist

In the first pack, there are 2 tracks with some layouts.
  • Circuit de Loire
  • Florida Raceway
Have fun :drive:

Alright, finally had a chance to give all of these at least a short run with AI and I have one major criticism I have to get right out of the way as I feel it's probably the most important to the idea of this pack especially going forward.

I think each track needs to look more distinct. :ouch: Every track has the same color kerbs, the same large sand traps, the same abundance of booths, banks of stands. With the exception of Florida and Wajeer, each feel very difficult to pinpoint where they would be geographically. I know a circuit like Tallinn has a flag on it but it doesn't invoke enough like Estonia (okay, difficult country for me to choose but the point stands, I guess) :sweatdrop: Even simply introducing those colours into the kerbs would make a difference.

One thing that is probably a really difficult thing to do but I would look primarily into different dithering patterns for grass and tarmac. When I think of Brazilian circuits, I often imagine something a bit more damp and muddy, definitely a lot of green and yellow around. Something like Latvia could take some insipration from Bikernieki, where both sides of the circuit are forested in and the overall state of the circuit can look more worn (that's not disparaging Latvia/Bikernieki, but the state of the circuit gives a great character that can be used) All your circuits except the French one have very open wide paddocks, that can definitely be played with a lot more.

I would also look into different ideas for runoffs and paddocks. Don't be afraid to make a skidpan here or there, maybe make a village nearby, use water (which I can't find in any circuit tbh), use cliffs. I find making environmental elements for some tracks are notoriously difficult but I would recommend giving some a go where you can. It'll make a night and day difference. :goal:

I really want to see more of these tracks because a lot of these layouts are absolutely fantastic and deserve some great scenery treatment. Lechia and Torino are great fun, always feeling like you need to have small adjustments around the lap to get a great line. :D

This will all feel really critical, this doesn't take away my enjoyment of these circuits at all, I just know there's a lot more potential for some truly amazing work. You got the driving and layouts down well, I think you can pull the scenery up with it too and make some outstanding work :goodvibes:

A few other tidbits I will add:
- Maybe zoom in on the circuits a little bit more. I feel a bit far away and I tried different resolutions to no avail
- Push the starting AI line (the red/active AI line) just a bit further from the S/F line. The AI have a tendency to drift across the grid into each other (and me) on race starts
- Some circuits need a tiny bit of tighetning up on the AI line, Patras comes to mind as one that feels a bit slow
- Grids could be spaced out a tiny bit more. Make the first corner less of a lottery.

TLDR; Amazing layouts, good racing, need some work on scenery :bg:

There's not much to say after Crowella, he already said everything. But even so I just want to share my opinion too and leave a comment as well, because you seems to put a lot of effort into this.

It would be one single circuit it would be ok for scenery. But in a pack where each track is in a different country and means to be different, it's quickly becomes weary and samey. Some circuits even share exact same scenery patterns. I don't know if you're afraid to test new stuff or want to stay in a comfort zone but please, have fun with scenery, even if it costs you some more time for it. It could be an opportunity to be creative, more because it's fictional tracks and you're not tied to any specific landscapes.

As already said the layouts are interesting and diversified enough. I appreciate that you put some alternative layouts, like national or others for some circuits.

And as already said too, I feel the circuits are too far away. Zooming a little would not make any harm at the contrary.

I'm impressed by your skill to make a website for your World Tour Tracks as well, it's well presented.

Keep your efforts ! :goal:

Yeah, I understand that scenery around the track looks similar and wherever I can, I'm trying to do it different.
Even if some tracks would still have it similar due to the real-life area where I decided to put them.
But these tracks are not in the final version, so they can be still updated for the future.

The only reason why I decided to make them is because at one day I just started to draw some circuits and I don't want to make them forgotten.
It's of course easier to make the track and more difficult to work about any scenery.
But I'm not going to give up, especially now when I feel more motivated ;)

I like the small details you add. A lot of thought out into them.

They look better every time you post.

Now needs: dramatic height map changes! The tracks look a bit flat and boring. Need some ups and downs and banked corners. Okay, maybe that’s not realistic for real world stuff, but it does make tracks more interesting and fun.

Someday I’d like to have a competition where people customize their cars, then the customized cars race against each other via AI on a series of tracks like this. After each series, participants are given more points to improve their car with, then another circuit is raced by the improved cars.

This is what my Advance car series from ~2005 was supposed to be (in my sig and website), but it never got off the ground and I don’t have those cars anymore.
