Changelog
---------
23:15:30 19/09/2012 v1.1:
	Revamped entire model
	Redone physics

Information
-----------
The GeneRally Boat object in car form. More of a gimmick
than a serious racing boat, although effort was made to
make it challenging and fun to drive around and race with.
Optimized to run on Strava's boat tracks and tracks like
it, which means tracks with a water level of 40. Comes in
true colour and player colour flavours.

Originaly made in 20/09/2003 and released in 04/04/2004.

Instructions
------------
Extract "ACM - Boat.car" from this zip file into the Cars
folder of your main GeneRally directory.

I went back to clean up my old boat replica. This time careful attention was given to measure up the model against the object to ensure it's a near 1/1 scale replica. The flatshading trick was also applied, so it really does look like the real thing!

I had this on hold for half a year now. My problem was coming up with decent physics. It was always going to be a problem because the boat's massive profile isn't really compatible with most water tracks out there. In the end I got impatient and packaged what I had already done as is so I could get this done and over with. What I currently went for reminds me of the boat physics of the Grand Theft Auto games. So if you think you know how to improve on the physics I settled on, please let me know. In fact, all type of feedback is welcome.

And unlike Ms's boat, this one was built for Strava's and others' tracks which use a water level of 40.

That looks just like my Object Boat.
What are differences except for size???

If you want a list of every difference...

* The physics; nothing is the same.
* The fact that one was built for Strava's and others' boat tracks and the other has it's own dedicated tracks.
* The head and wheel positioning.
* The lighting.
* The vertex and polygon ordering are fundementally different.
* The fact that one uses palette colours 176/177/184/185 and the other uses 90/92/100/102.

Admitadely, I removed the underside polygons of my boat to complete the sides of the roofpane, which is exactly how yours is like. But that's only because I found it to be better. Since there's really only one way to replicate the boat object, they're undoubtably going to look the same.

I think of the originality of the car design. All members would be able to imitate all the designs of GR cars, when if this boat is authorization. Then the tag of car master would be meaningless.

You confess having imitated design of my boat, the contents of your comment were interpreted..

That wasn't quite what I stated. Also, I doubt the carmaster title implies special priveleges in terms of rules. It's just there to indicate that people recignise you as a great carmaker.

Think of it this way: Every time multiple carmakers produce a Formula 1 pack of the same year- is one car maker plagiarising the other? They were both looking to imitate the real life Formula 1 cars. In this case, we were both imitating the boat object of this game.

If it gets deemed that this shouldn't've been posted then...

Anyway, if the polygons location of your boat is made same as the polygons location of my boat, the looks of two boats would be the same. I regard it as imitation.

I re-made and changed the polygons of your boat into the same as the polygons of my boat.

The looks of two boats are the same.
How do you think about it?

p.s. Don't you have the principle?

Masa, that post is a disgracefully low blow to ACM, especially for someone as creative and adept as you are. The 'car' is a replication of an object in the game. If someone tried to make it look in any way different from the object in question (a boat), that would be an unfaithful replica. Just because someone tries to make the same car/boat/whatever does not necessarily mean that they are a thief.

@Haruna: I might not understand your comment, because I'm weak in English. I write this comment, in accord with it.

My Object Boat isn't the same in the designing at the original object boat, because that was made with limited polygons. But I was approached to the design. That work made me spend many hard time. ACM can get its design without hard time, when if his boat is authorization.

For example, about Maciej1's Star Wars and Masa's Star Wars (cars): There is not the resemblance (on both pack cars). The difference of the design will occur by all means. ACM's boat is using my design just as it is.

Is not it a thief of a design? With the same case, the file of the thread was rejected, in other time. I cannot understand why you agree permission of this boat.

What are you talking about, Masa?

Everybody can build the boat again if he wants. If you once copied it into a car, ACM can try to do same too.

I believe, that everybody with a sense of geometry and basic experience with models in car editor will come with this exact shape after analysis of shape of the object boat, especially because the shape is quite trivial and does not require many choices abut where to sacrifice one detail to create other (like e.g. the mentioned complex designs of Star Wars spacecrafts require). In this simple case will differ only by proportions (e.g. hights of decks), so it cannot be seen as a clear sign of piracy.

The lack of bottom side is resemblance between those models, but I believe to ACM, where he says above, that he did because found this solution better. After all, almost all carmakers don't add bottoms of models to save polygons, you both decided in same logic, that's nothing unusual but common technique, also it cannot be seen as a clear sign of piracy.

A look inside on polygons and vertexes shows this model is built from scratch, it is not edited copy of your work. You two independently copied same thing, it looks same mainly due experience of you both and low complexness of original model.

@Trigger Happy: The textures of the red parts are not attached to my boat. The original "Object Boat " and "my boat" are not the same form (design). Would it be accidental identicalness? Humm,, I doubt about it. Would it be faulted that I feel doubt in it? :shy:

@ACM: Could you understand why I had the doubt? Please don't delete the file by you, because I would seem to be a bad fellow. I leave the matter to Moderators judgment, and obey Mods' opinion. “No hard feelings” with each other. :)

I noticed this difference between the model(s) and object, that's why I mentioned ''does not require many choices'' and to tell you truth, I'd do very similar like you two, if I'd want to keep the work complete-looking in 30 vertexes. I'd even do same like ACM (much higher hull deep under water level to decrease the steep angle on front, to mask simplified front). Because only these two red details are pretty expendable, deleting anything other (wind-shield on top, windows or polies bellow them, flat hull) would make the boat ''not looking right'' like (Haruna says) or would not bring enough saving to reason the change (front by 1 vertex).

As I told, the boat itself is quite simple task for modelling and neither of you two is a rookie, so it's not really shocking vision, that you both would decide for same solution for vertex saving after some considering the matter. Usually similar ''accidental identicalness'' between models don't happen, but we're not talking about a complex thing, but about a boat in most basic shapes. I guess most of at least average carmakers would consider doing same, this really is not a breathtaking solution, what only masters could reveal and exploit for vertexes saving. I think you bit underestimate others in this case if see only a copy in this.

On the other hand I quite understand, why you're so sensitive or almost a bit paranoid about copying, after being victim of various pirates and cheaters so manytimes during all the years in carmaking.

Thanks Trigger Happy. I was able to understand for your(Mods') opinion. The disputation advanced at the time when ACM couldn't write his opinions. It wasn't my mind. (late-night? or school?)

I was sensitive to the making of cars. I'm sorry to Haruna and all-members for be made trouble by my rambunctious comments.

This entire thing reminds me of the Apple vs Samsung "rounded rectangle" thing. As Trigger Happy rightly stated, your experience in car making led you to make very similar choices. I see very little wrong, especially as you've both recreated something relatively simple.
