Would you donate to a bounty for a new GeneRally? If so...
As discussed here: http://gene-rally.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=966
Would you donate to a pot of money that would be given to a developer for making a replica GeneRally game that:
* Is backward compatible with cars and tracks
* Uses the same or similar physics
* Has extra features we want (such as on-line multiplayer, more track design elements, weather etc... - full list to be decided)
* Fixes for known issues
* The code to be released as open source
The money would only be given once the job was complete. So are you in or out? If in how much would you willing to donate?
This is all hypothetical. No bounty has been created or details decided. I want to know if there is enough support before bothering going through that process.

I wouldn't donate for two reasons: I don't play often enough and I can't afford to spare any money, even a meagre amount, unfortunately.
Re: Would you donate to a bounty for a new GeneRally? If so.
I wouldnt donate cause I wouldnt be sure about paying the bounty. I don't have Paypal or sth like that.
If the game wasn't freeware, I think I would buy for max 20 $. But I'm glad it is freeware

That's another problem I have, nor do I have a credit card/debit card/anything like that. And I've got a computer project to finish, plus stuff I may need for my next football season (new gloves)...

The problem is that creating a new GR is not the question of money...but this has been discussed here 10000000 times during the last few years.

A month have passed and it seems that not many people are moved by the idea. Unfortunately, I might add. But I understand your reasons above. Since I am a bit older than you and have a day job I could spend a small amount on the project a bit easier (voted for $10). Anyway, I guess we'll have to wait for an official update. Which may not be bad at all: the community wouldn't be divided into those who paid and those who didn't and such stuff that splits the community (which is probably the worst thing that could happen to GR).

I don't think this would split the community if it happens; everyone would be able to play any "new GR" a bounty would generate. In any case, this doesn't really matter, as the original still is being developed...

@bduddy
The finished project would be open sourced so ANYONE could play it.
@All
It doesn't look like the community would be willing to support a new GR enough for it to get off the ground. Coupled with the news that the code has been passed onto someone who will hopefully be able to move the project on, I will delay the bounty idea for now.
I would have preferred to see the code released as open source which in my opinion would mean developments would have happened sooner but we must respect the decisions of the original authors.
Good luck to James and Co. Hopefully progress will be forthcoming.

I can invest like 400 usd. Put the project a live, and i will do the possible to this happen.
Re: Would you donate to a bounty for a new GeneRally? If so.
Happy to see this much donating, because I dont have a VISA card and my parents would not let me donate.
I really would like to see updated GR.

Oh my! This is totally useless bump. Please, don't do that again, Wouter, to such old threads.Wouter wrote:Id say i wont donate money to the guys who would make it cause i dont have dollars, in my country we have euros.

Bump is an international forum-jargon for posting not related messages into a thread after they became inactive. That used to be defined most of times as 30 days or 4 weeks (that's the same on GRIF). And that's what you've done here too.

$10, as there would be no guarantee or deal to assure me that I am not wasting my money. Plus I'm 17 and my allowance income = $0/month.

*facepalm* look at the posts above...

Wouter, please, stop bumping this and other threads, especially when you knaw you shouldn't. I remind you, that constant breaking the rules may result in official warning, and in extreme cases - to a ban.

To those wondering, I just managed to delete Wouter's post before Paw posted his warning, because it was so unnecessary.Paw wrote:Wouter, please, stop bumping this and other threads, especially when you knaw you shouldn't. Anyway, Wouter, you're walking on thin ice already, enough with that kind of behavior.

Hello
I'm not a very active member of this community but I do play GR from time to time and I could afford 20 dollars for a new GeneRally, especially if it would allow me to play multiplayer over the internet.

Welcome! The "bounty" thing is not really relevant right now, because some old admins are supposedly translating the code right now so that it can be more easily modified.
