You can just run the server within the main Hamachi network IMO.

Re: Who plays Minecraft?
I feel like I've progressed enough in my 1.0 world to start showing stuff off. Again, not all that impressive, but better stuff is on the way. I've also switched to a custom Painterly texture pack since launch.
My new skin. Some say he molded this sword with his bare hands.
Overview of my first house, which is basically an expanded hidey-hole. The gravel road at the bottom leads to my initial spawn point, and the cobblestone road (still under construction) going off to the right leads to base #2. The cobblestone building in the back was my first attempt at a watchtower, then it got abandoned, then I picked it back up and wanted to use it as a hub for more watchtowers in the area...then I abandoned it again.
Left: Portal room. I haven't activated it...probably won't ever, since I'm setting up a more permanent base elsewhere. I had to do this one the hard way, building a mold to put lava in, then turn it into obsidian from there, as I had lost my diamond pickaxe (and ALL of my diamonds ) in a previous lava-gathering accident.
Right: Obsidian generator. Pour lava sources into the trench, pull lever to retract the pistons, water falls onto the lava and creates obsidian. Kind of useless at the moment as I haven't managed to find any diamonds since then, but it's there if I ever need it.
Interior of my house. Wheat farm in the background, which has a glass ceiling above it and water under the slabs. Offscreen to the left is the entrance to my mine. To the left of the wheat farm is a bunch of hallways leading to rooms in various states of completeness.
Formerly my bedroom, now serves as a TV room. Door to the left leads into my animal farm; the hallway to the right of that leads up to my watchtower. Offscreen to the left is a ladder down to what is now my bedroom.
Interior of the watchtower. Ladder leads back down into the house. There are two doors on the right and the left (offscreen) that go outside so I can deal with any mobs that show up. Staircase on the left spirals up to the top of the tower.
My initial spawn point. I set up a supply depot right next to it (complete with my best attempt at a lambda). Again, seems a bit useless now that I have a bed.

Sadly, The whole 1.0 is too big for my computer, so whenever I put it on, the game crashes, so I downloaded an old 1.7 Beta, and been playing that atm

Re: Who plays Minecraft?
Well, maybe it's time to show off my house I've been working on with my schoolmate and other guys on an Indonesian server.
This is me and my schoolmate's house. It connects to other houses via that bridge, or a tunnel network at the basement.
Oh, and the dirt walls below actually have 3 layers.
A tree farm and a bamboo farm right next to the house.
Woodcutters' Camp.
The road to my house. There's a wheat farm straight ahead.
And yeah, don't even bother looking to the balcony.
The wheat farm. It actually has 2 levels, one in the basement below.
A tunnel network, which as I said, connects to other houses.
The tunnel network from another angle. The mineshaft entrance is down to the right.
Entrance to the mineshaft. It connects to many cave networks down below.

Re: Who plays Minecraft?
I had this house in a server until the server went down:
I was so proud of it that I started rebuilding it in a Creative mode world in Single Player. Here is the progress:

Re: Who plays Minecraft?
It does suck for him, but I imagine golden apples will actually be used now instead of people just hanging onto them because they were prohibitively expensive. All you need now are gold nuggets (which you can either get from Zombie Pigmen in the Nether or just breaking down a Gold Ingot) and an apple (which have a 1/200 chance of dropping from oak tree leaves). They have less effect now, but it is a heck of a lot more balanced than before.
Anyway, I already updated to 1.1, then realized Optifine hadn't updated yet so I've taken off a few days until that gets back up to date. I'm in the middle of building my house...or rather, the land my house will be built on. It's on top of a leveled-off mountain. Problem is, there isn't much room to build anything around the house unless I wanted to make a tiny house as a compromise. What I'm doing now, then, is artificially extending the mountain to the side to give myself plenty of room to build a proper house. I dug out all of the dirt in the area and have started cooking mountains of smooth stone. I'm starting to set up a tree farm (to make charcoal), which I need to feed the bunch of furnaces I'm maintaining.
EDIT: Just did some calculations based on rough estimates...if I have this right, apparently I'm going to need 15-16 full stacks of stone PER LAYER, and I need a bit over 20 layers. What have I gotten myself into?
