If the safety car was also french, you could have blamed the french for wanting to wreck some Porsches, but...

Although he's not a racer, Martin Bartek, the team principal of Matech GT Racing, passed away three days ago:

Re: Other motorsport discussion *spoiler*
So the first weekend of massive crashes of the year is here it seems. Huge flip in Imola, Huge fire in Barbagallo, big crash(es) in Spa...
One interesting part about that V8 video was the discussion about the next gen. car, which will have the fuel cell mounted closer to the front, in front of the rear axle. Either they have found out something exceptionally great to make the cell fireproof and kept outside of the driver area, or they are moving away from the ideal safety.

Re: Other motorsport discussion *spoiler*
comments about those videos...
The Imola one, since they changed the start straight section to what it is now, there have been some massive accidents there, i really wont be surprised if they add a left right chicane before that particular kink.
The Barbagallo one, absolutely huge, incredibly lucky drivers, and i did think it was great to see various pitcrew members run out with fire extinguishers to help and as for your comment about the fuel tank location, it does kind of make sense to move it forward more. it will offer a lot more protection from accidents into the rear of the car, although it will never be perfect, but look at single seaters and how close the driver is to the fuel tank in those.
and in the 3rd video, some of the worst TV directing ever
finally personal note, went and saw some great racing at Thruxton today with the British Touring Cars and this video is relevant...

The corner has caused many heavy accidents, but I guess this one picks the pot.

Re: Other motorsport discussion *spoiler*
oh my, where did he end up?
also, isnt there a topic for crashes somewhere?

Re: Other motorsport discussion *spoiler*
He decided to take the short way out of the track. The news said he has hurt his back, which he had already hurt before in some other series. But I guess it's nothing that severe, luckily.
And there was a topic for crashes, indeed, but it was attached to this thread.

I was thinking, that current IndyCar is ugly so much, that it cannot be worse. But those Americans proved that I was totally wrong: default shapes for project 2012.
My GR Racing Stats; thanks to GWR!
Re: Other motorsport discussion *spoiler*
Yeah, that does look bad, but they won't all look like that if you do a little research - the basic chassis and suspension is standardized, but the aero parts are not.

Re: Other motorsport discussion *spoiler*
You're too optimistic - lot of teams will use the default parts because of lack of funding and of course several things are likely mandatory (like the ugly rear, which is completely useless at least on road version IMHO and we haven't mentioned the mandatory fake thing above head of drivers, don't forget, that it's supposed to be turbo engined car ) or will be welcomed because of money (the shark tail for sponsors), so teams will want it imho in the optional packs too.

Re: Other motorsport discussion *spoiler*
The rear of the car won't be changing too much, indeed. They designed it that way to prevent the flips, so there's not much the teams can do. But I have to say I like that design, given the fact that they were forced to have these safety things. And this design was way better than many of the other suggestions anyway. Sure, it looks a bit rear heavy with those massive pods and everything, but I think it's ok.

Re: Other motorsport discussion *spoiler*
yeah, thank goodness they didnt pick that deltawing design
the only thing i dont like about them are the 'coverings' over the rear wheels which remind me of a LM prototype

The most epic and quite possibly closest finish in all of motor racing. Sam Hornish Jr., Bryan Herta and Scott Dixon go neck and neck at the 2003 Chicagoland Indycar race:
Look to the left ----------------> that's to the right, mate :(
Owner of Team GeneAlex
GRACE S1 - 25th out of 47 drivers and 14th out of 18 teams. Not bad for a first season eh?
GRC S18 - 15th out of 26 (7th out of 14 in junior standings)

Looks like the cars seem to like climbing over the walls this weekend. That's a second one in Nürburgring, and there also was one (a bigger one than this) at Road America..
Will we see something similar in F1....?

It's actually quite funny how they manage to make such a boring layout as the Bugatti one, from such an interesting layout as the whole Le Mans layout provides. de la Sarthe is kept as one of those jewels of the world, while not even the racers like the Bugatti course.
